I just heard a podcast of a CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp for the non-Canadians out there) radio program on epigenetics. It isn't about MS specifically, but if you are at all curious about epigenetics, it's an enjoyable, accessible introduction. From the attached link, it's the November 22 selection.

Epigenetics radio program
I think the ridicule thing is largely because one of the most thoroughly discredited theories in biology -- one that we all learn about in biology class in high school -- is Lamarck's theory on the inheritance of acquired characteristics. Epigenetics suggests that acquired characteristics can be inherited in some cases, so I think a lot of scientists just dismissed some of the influence of epigenetics on that basis alone.
