Hi Gwa,
I don't know what to make of it. I searched "cryptovirus" in pubmed and sciencedirect and came up with nothing. I googled "cryptovirus" and other than computer viruses of the same name, there wasn't much there. Something came up from 2002 and a different page on the same site from 2004?

Google? Pubmed? phhhhhtttt! I have a secret source for tough searches on MS. Drum-roll please..........the "search" function in the ThisIsMS forums! This site has been around for a few years now with lots of people posting lots of stuff. I have had a number of instances where I couldn't find what I was looking for on Google, then found it quickly by searching the forums here.

I just noticed that I participated in the original thread. That's OK, I'm cool. I didn't say I didn't remember cryptovirus, I just said that it was hard to find information about it!

I wouldnt poo-poo google too quickly. There is the google search (down the left of your thisisMS page, thanks to Aaron for pointing it out to me), but you can also search specifically within ThisIsMS by typing the following into google directly also

which gives 5 hits.

You could even check if you had typed anything on the same page: eg

site:www.thisisms.com +cryptovirus +lyon

which pulls up a thread. Its pretty powerful. The "+" forces google that it MUST have this word in the page (I dont do any search engines without it). For a phrase, place it in quote characters so "nice portrayal of the raspberry sound" would pull up this page.

So, using google in the above ways, while not limiting it to This Is MS provides 287 hits HERE that are specific to MS and cryptovirus.

Thanks Cure, I hadn't realized that trick and will have to try it.

In your searching did you find anything recent about cryptovirus?? All I wanted to ascertain was that it wasn't another flash in the pan. Here today, never heard of again tomorrow.

I just found something out that might save you a couple of keystrokes. Important to think energy conservation for us MSers...anyhow, I, like you, have until recently used the "+" while doing search engine searches. I just noticed a few months ago that Google was telling me that it searched for all terms in a search string by default now. So I tried multi-term searches with and without the "+" and found that they return the exact same results.

I'm sure it wasn't always that way with Google, but don't know when they switched.

One last Google note: I use it all the time, it's probably still the best search engine out there for me, and yet I think it sucks. I think the world learning how to manipulate its page rank system is really degrading the quality of my search results.

Thanks dignan for the update. I had not remembered reading about the cold virus as a possible causing agent for MS. In fact, I don't think I ever read about it before I saw this article.

Wonder why we haven't been put on some antivirals yet.

Very interesting....

I had my first relapse since being diagnosed a couple of months ago. It was a very mild sensory problem in my right leg and foot. I had a cold right before that. NOW!!! I am just now getting over another cold and now I am having another F*cking relapse. It is affecting my right hand (fingers) and the right side of my back. Just very slight numbness. There absolutely has to be a connection.

*despair!*

Why can't they figure this out? I just started having this new little relapse on this very last Sunday.

I have two known triggers for a relapse. Cold/flu and a pulse of flagy (when I was on the ABX's protocol)

I have also just picked up a flu, but this time I was prepared, and have amantadine (an antiviral, in addition to mino I take regularily) to hopefully minimize the damage. Since it was some time since I had seen my doc, I thought I better check the dosage that I remembered on the web. I came accross the wiki page for it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amantadine, and noticed allllll the way at the bottom, the different drugs that are effective against different virus. interesting.

After reading about amantadines resistance issue, I think i will chat to my doctor about Oseltamivir
