Re: Do lesions disappear from MRIs when you are symptom free

I guess I do not understand the difference between inflammation and lesions. I had problems for 1 and a half years. I had really bad abdominal pain every day that felt like a belt was wrapped tightly around my waist. I ended up in the hospital because my body wasn't staying hydrated, even though I w...

Do lesions disappear from MRIs when you are symptom free?

Hi, Do lesions disappear from MRIs when you are symptom free? I ask because I lost my sense of taste for 2 months, and I had numbness throughout my body. The doctor ordered an MRI, and by the time I had it (several months later), the symptoms were gone, and I felt fine. There was nothing on the MRI....

Re: Don't need an MRI?

Hi, My neuro's nurse called about tests for porphyria, and said they were negative and that the doctor thought I really had porphyria. She made it sound like he didn't want to do further tests because I had no symptoms and that I should call if in the future I did, but she did say MRI or LP were som...

Don't need an MRI?

My neuro tested for porphyria, a rare disease, and seemed convinced I had it and fortunately the tests came back negative. However, he really didn't think I needed additional testing since I have absolutely no symptoms at the moment. For two and a half months, my entire body was numb (I could still ...

Re: Weird kind of Numbness

Vitamin B12 (came back normal) B1 (Thiamin) Vitamin B6, P/S Copper, Serum Heavy Metals Scrn Bld (I don't know that Scrn Bld means) Ceruloplasim and a 24 hour Urine test for Porphyrins. I had never heard of porphyria before, but he just kind of quickly suggested it. I'm just really worried right now ...

Re: Weird kind of Numbness

>>"Do you have this sensation all the time or it comes and goes?"<< I had it for 2 and a half months over my entire body. During that time I could not taste anything (ageusia). I've had lots of symptoms over the past year and a half and been tested for various things. Right now my doctor i...

Weird kind of Numbness

What do you call that feeling that is like numbness, but where it feels like your skin has cling-film around it... it's not like it's asleep or tingling... it's like the skin is 50% less sensitive... I'm just wondering if there's an official term for this kind of numbness that is so hard to describe.

Re: Update: Inability to taste for 2 months... now fine.

Hi Icecube, That is a good description of the feeling. It wasn't tingling or like when your leg is asleep... but like my entire body had a layer of clingfilm around it. I haven't been able to describe it properly before. I am waiting on tests for a condition called porphyria, and then maybe an MRI n...

Re: Update: Inability to taste for 2 months... now fine.

I was able to see my neurologist. First he is testing for porphyria. If not that, then he might do an MRI. Not really sure what's going on right on right now

Darn. I can't get into neurology until March. I realize there's nothing I can do here but vent. I just need to vent a little.

Re: Update: Inability to taste for 2 months... now fine.

Oksan,

I know the feeling. I was making food for my father and realized I couldn't tell how it would taste. Yours came back, too I hope.

I don't know if I have MS. I hope not. I have a neurology appointment in January. Who knows what will happen.

Re: Update: Inability to taste for 2 months... now fine.

Thank you.

Of course I hope that this is all due to anxiety (and not anything worse like MS), but it just seemed to me that there was no way this was anxiety related.

Re: Update: Inability to taste for 2 months... now fine.

I think I'll keep my neuro appointment for now. My fear really is just having the neurologist look at me like my internist, cardiologist, and endrocinologist did... like I was crazy and my symptoms were in my head and caused by anxiety. It's a terrible feeling. My internist didn't want to send me to...

Update: Inability to taste for 2 months... now fine.

For two months (Sept-Oct), I was unable to taste anything and I had a slight numb feeling thoroughout my entire body (I could still feel - but all sensation was dimished). During this time, I made an appointment with a neurologist (after seeing an internist and doing lots of tests... she just though...

Re: Handful of Symptoms... but what?

Hi. I've had a number of tests. My iron levels are good as is my TSH for hypothyroidism. I know numbness can be caused by hypothyroidism, but the numbers on my tests are fine. I eat well and get all the food groups. I'll try taking a multivitamin (I've done so in the past, but then sort of stop due ...
