Re: My HSCT Six Month Follow up

"if they do not do the "stem cell" treatment after the chemo, that would tell me the medications they are using do not kill off the bone marrow; as also from my understanding, the purpose for stem cells in HSCT is to reinstate the bone marrow, to regenerate the immune system." I ...

Re: My HSCT Six Month Follow up

CureOrBust--Reporting the results are different than treating the patients. They treat the patients over many years. Than compile the resulting information, then report the long term results. Yes, the treatment at UT is a little different than Burts. They don't, for example. do the stem cell aspect ...

Re: My HSCT Six Month Follow up

Great to hear! I'm also in Dr. Burt's study. I failed on 3 DMDs. Finished mobilization and head back to Chicago in early September for the transplant. HSCT, thankfully, is getting more press lately and, for those of us with aggressive, non-responsive MS, it is by far the best option out there! Don'...

Re: My HSCT Six Month Follow up

when are you scheduled to start treatment? CureOrBust-I had my treatment last October. I qualified for Dr. Burts clinical trial and my insurance covered my treatment. My six month follow up showed no new activity and I went from a "4" EDSS to a "1" EDSS. I can never be a "0...

Re: Stem Cell Treatment Shows Promise For Treating MS

Wow...I had to smile when I saw you posted this news video. Especially when I saw Dr. Chap Pfefer. He received the HSCT treatment from Dr. Burt in Chicago. "Then Gina( his mother) met Dr. Chad Pfefer, himself an MS survivor. He introduced the Tiels to a process called hematopoietic stem cell tr...

My HSCT Six Month Follow up

I am not posting this to start a debate on whether or not people believe this is "the right" thing to do. I am simply stating my results. I researched, discussed and agonized over this decision for a year. I did not jump in blindly, it was a very thought out, personal decision. Trust me. I...

Re: Stem Cell Treatment Testimonials

Talked with the doctor again and we got things moving and it is going to be myeloablative hsct. I would prefer non-myeloablative, but they are not willing to perform it and probably have no experience with it. This is too good to be true to be honest and I just can't wait a few more months to get t...

Re: HSCT - A proposed cure for MS

Dear George I have come across this forum through my research for my son who has been diagnosed with MS (remitting-relapsing) two years ago. We are really interested to explore this option as we have nothing else to try. I would like to make contact with you to understand your experiences and opini...

Re: Looking for a Doctor Recommendation in Fort Worth

The MS clinic at UT Southwestern is really good. Dr Greenberg is great. It takes a while to get in though. I know they would recommend getting your vitamin D level checked; at to take at least 5,000 a day.

Gut flora and random question

I had a very interesting meeting with my Dr. last week. After a lot of discussions on different treatments. He told me that more focus would be placed on gut flora as being a factor in MS. That is why (in his opinion) certain diets (Swank, Paleo) and other diets work because they re balance and impr...
