Re: Just starting

I am going to have my neuro clarify this. Now that I think about it, it may be a different type of oral medication. I do know that they just started using it in 2012.

Re: Just starting

The Veterans Administration is very limited in what they can prescribe, due to costs. There is now an oral form of Avonex, but it is pricey. They want to wait and see how well I handle the drug before they give it to me in it's most expensive form. Yes, it stinks, but I am lucky that I have health c...

Re: Just starting

I started with pre-filled syringes. Since I am getting my care through the VA system, I have to live with what they will give me. My neurologist told me that if I handle the syringes well, they will eventually let me try the new oral medication. And, yes I started at 1/4th of a dose and will increas...

Re: Genetics?

I am not trying to label genetics as a cause, but perhaps to an increased susceptibility.

Just starting

I did my first avonex injection last night and it went very well. I was scared and apprehensive. Not only about the avonex, but about injecting myself. I did perfect! It made me a little lightheaded, so I went to bed. I woke up this morning a little sore, but that is not unusual. I took some more mo...

Re: Hello

All three were type 1. Mother and Grandfather were both insulin dependent from a faily young age. Great grandmother went blind around the age of 20, so hers was juvenile onset as well. My insulin test was ordered by my GP in conjunction with my yearly physical. They do this every few years. And, yes...

Re: Hello

My insulin levels have always been quite low. I have a direct history of diabetes in my family (my mother, her dad, his mom), and I had gestational diabetes with all of my four kids. I have a fasting blood insulin test coming up in February. I will keep an eye on it. ;)

Re: mental symptoms?

The cognitive and mental changes I went through before being diagnosed cost me my marriage. I can no longer do math, this is not only keeping me from graduating college, but it caused me to write a bad check as well. Luckily, I have some very understanding friends who help me out a lot.......and the...

Genetics?

I am wondering what role genetics may play in MS. My mother recently died of brain cancer, and my daughter is epileptic. Has anyone else noticed this kind of link? I told my neurologist about it and she was fascinated.

Hello

I thought I should introduce myself. I am a 46 year old female Army veteran. I have recently been diagnosed with secondary progressive MS. I was undiagnosed during the relapsing/remitting stage. Years ago, the Army diagnosed me with migraines (that I now know were actually MS headaches.) I kept quie...

Re: MARIJAUNA BEING ILLEGAL IS PURE "BS"-PLAIN AND SIMPLE

I am seriously thinking of moving somewhere where I can get a medicinal MJ card. I have tried it and it helps greatly with the spasticity and (believe it or not) my cognition. I read an article recently saying that it may also help prevent relapses and new damage. I will post a link when I find it. ...

Re: Vertigo, headaches and treatment

I was diagnosed with migraines before the doctors figured out that it was MS. I am constantly getting vertigo, especially when I am having a flare up.
