Re: Researchers find link between industrialised foods...

It's all about the endothelium. The additives in processed foods make tight junctions of endothelial cells to open via free radicals and NO depletion, and plasmic particles enter tissue, creating an immune response. This can happen in the gut, as well as the blood brain barrier and brain. It's not r...

Re: Relief for Burning Leg?

My partner has been diagnosed with MS but hasn't really had any significant symptoms since the initial flare (vertigo). Now he's had a couple days of burning sensation in his legs. Is this likely another flare we should be seeking steroid treatment for? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Hi Dan...

Re: MS ‘appears to originate in different part of brain’

This research was published in 2013 --- Here's the whole paper for free. I remembered reading it. http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0066117 Gray matter atrophy, which is loss of axons, correlates to disabilities in MS from the Cleveland Clinic in 2008 Gray matter tiss...

Re: MS ‘appears to originate in different part of brain’

Not sure why this is being linked here as "news"....this research came out of Rutgers in 2013. http://news.rutgers.edu/research-news/multiple-sclerosis-appears-originate-different-part-brain-long-believed/20130910#.VnsjoDbydIA There are many of us who have been writing about the fact that ...

Re: CCSVI and CCVBP

Hello Joan, Sorry I missed your post. You're welcome and thanks for the compliment. Unfortunately, my paper on neuromyelitis optica (Devic's disease) and Asian optic spinal MS was recently rejected. It's a terrific paper. The reviewer, however, said it was seriously flawed becaused I suggest that t...

Re: LWW Journals Spotlight on MS... MUST READ ABSTRACT

Well, whaddya know. Slowly, but surely--the heart brain connection is being considered by neurologists. Better late, than never. Thanks for the link, Bob. Have shared on FB. The following quote is disturbing. The clinical presentation and pathophysiology of cardiovascular dysfunction in MS are revie...

Since this drug was discontinued for RA and Lupus, must be time for MS.... There were 6 deaths associated with infections in the RA phase III trial. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3911947/ There were 5 deaths associated with serious infections in the Lupus phase III trial. http://online...

Re: Another clue in understanding multiple sclerosis?

Not very comforting to read that the docs are debating with one another on what is scientifically correct when it comes to brain circulation! Probably some reputations at issue here within the medical community. Not much debate in the research world---scientists know that this newly discovered (g)l...

Re: Another clue in understanding multiple sclerosis?

Just wanted to discuss the actual research linked in the first post. Here's the abstract. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1074761315004628 It's a mouse model, but it is looking at something we know which happens in people with MS. There are "tertiary lymphatic tissues", o...

Re: New research: Vitamin D boosts remyelination

More on this research. Remyelination has been the holy grail for many...surprised this isn't getting more traction on the board. When scientists added vitamin D to brain stem cells (which have both vitamin D and RXR gamma receptors), production of oligodendrocytes increased 80 percent http://www.ema...

Thank you all so much for your comments and advice. I guess I'm still in a bit of denial about the whole thing. We as a family are going to try and talk him out of continuing to play. Other sites for your family to check out, for inspiration in other physical pursuits. My friend Matt Embry was dx w...

Sorry for what you're going thru, MSmom--- I have a college aged son, too---and I can imagine this has been really hard for your whole family. There have been professional athletes with MS who continue on--Josh Harding comes to mind. http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/sportsdoc/Josh-Harding-and-stay...

Re: How are the stents holding up?

I'm on Facebook and see in person many of the Stanford people, as well as others treated with stents by Haskell and Siskin-- now 5- 6 years out from treatment--no reports of fractured or occluded stents from them. Have not heard of that happening. There is certainly no guarantee in anything, if that...

Re: Understanding Multiple Sclerosis

Do you have a reference for this? Melanoma is a pretty nasty cancer. Going without sunblock increases your risks considerably. Here's some published info on sunscreen, NHE-- It is also of note that MS epidemiology has changed in important ways over the past several decades. Thus, the incidence (pre...
