Re: Infusion duration

The infusion takes a few hours. First you have an IV steroid infusion for about an hour to help prevent side effects, then I think it's about 4-5 hours, although they put it in in about 3 hours by the time you get to day 4-5. You also might want to take anti sickness and headache tablets too. My son...

FDA refuse to file letter

The FDA have sent Genzyme/Sanofi a refuse to file letter. They're not asking for more trials, just for more info at the moment, but it will put back approval in the US by another 6 months or so. The EMA in Europe have accepted the application.

Withawal of campath

Apparently in the US and most of Europe, Sanofi are withdrawing the unlicensed use of Campath for MS treatment ie use outside of a recognised trial. Drs. will only be able to get it for named cancer patients. I think this starts in the US in November. This is in preparation for it to be licensed und...

Re: HiCy in Europe

Please be very careful about HSCT. I think you are looking at Human Stem Cell Transplant, not Human Stem Cell Treatment. They are 2 very different things. HSC transplant is where they kill off your immune system as much as possible with drugs and then allow it to reboot itself or give you a transpan...

In Pub Med there has already been an article in 2009 ' IL-21 drives secondary autoimmunity in ms patients following campath'. Itlooks like if you have high levels of IL-21 serum in your blood you are more likely to develop autoimmune diseases post campath, and it suggests that it might be an idea to...

Male fertility

I know there's been a discussion about this, but it seemed to focus on females. Have any of you males who've had campath either sperm banked before it, had any counselling about it or had any drop in fertility?

Campath and malignancy

I think that we all know the risks of an autoimmune disease if you take the campath option, but does anyone know if there is a risk of cancer? I think that in the phase 2 trial they had 3 cases of cancer in the campth group (breast, cervical and lymphoma) v. one in the control group (colon) which th...

Thereis also a very good booklet on the research produced by the society which you can download. Also Robin Franklin is taking questions this week on the site ab...

I keep getting invalid session when I try to respond, so will keep this short. I think the phase 3 trial for those people who've had ms symptoms for less than 5 years and have not had any other treatment except steroids is due to report in the UK in March/April 2011, and the other in 2012.
