Experiences with Amantadine
Hello All- Has anyone taken Amantadine for fatigue? It was originally used to treat the flu, but it's supposed to be efficacious with fighting fatigue as a side effect of the drug. My neurologist prescribed it for me, but it seems to make it worse! It makes me dizzy and "loopy" when I've t...

Financial Assistance w/ Rebif
NiftyBunny,
MS Lifelines, the Rebif support network, has a wonderful program that offers financial support for qualifying patients. I've been able to get my Rebif free of charge, which is a huge help. If you haven't done so, it's worth investigating.

Good Experience w/ Rebif
I've been on the 44mcg for over a year now and I've had good luck with it so far. My latest MRI showed no new activity and I haven't had a relapse during that time period. When I was on Copaxone, it seemed like relapses were occurring almost monthly. I've been very fortunate that I'm finally stable....

Side Effects Not So Bad
I've been on Rebif for over a year and seem to have adjusted to it well. I did have the dreaded flu-like symptoms at first, but they went away after about a month or so. I do my injection at night prior to bedtime, which seems to help. As far as injection sites, I no longer include my thighs in the ...

Not Just an MS Phenomenon
I've had a lower body temperature for most of my life and it's been that way even prior to my dx. 98.6 (37C) is a fever for me. I think I'm a few degrees below normally, but don't quote me on it. Haven't had it checked recently.

Hi Concussus, Glad to hear that few things have deteriorated. I've got a plethora of lesions on my cerebellum and brain stem, which could affect things like breathing. I did have trouble exhaling during a relapse last year, but thankfully, it went away. At that time, the Copaxone may have kept thing...

Disposing Used Needles
Kara, Speaking of counties, the county health department may be able to dispose of the needles for you. (At least in the U.S.) If not, they'll likely be able to tell you how to properly dispose of them. I use an old liquid laundry detergent bottle with a twist off cap that seems to work pretty well....

MRI's
Concussus, That's very true that MRI's cannot predict the course of the disease. My neurologist made a similar point to yours about the number of lesions and the level of disability. I do think that it also depends on where said lesions are. One of the treatment options the MS specialist gave me was...

May Need A Different Therapy
Sherry, When is the last time you had an MRI done? That is probably the best way to tell if it's being efficacious for you. I was on Copaxone for 9 months and experienced several relapses during that time. I went to see an MS specialist, who ordered a current MRI of the brain and C-Spine to see what...

Injection Site Reactions
I was on Copaxone for nine months and got welts the entire time. This was regardless of what the needle setting was on the autoject. My thighs were the worst, as I have a lot of surface veins to contend with and bruise easily. I experimented with using a cold compress, heating pad and nothing. I fou...

Managing the Arms
I don't know if anyone else does this, but I learned a technique to inject in the back of the arms by yourself. Gently rest the back portion of your arm on a chair or sofa so the area is exposed. You may have to use the opposite hand to move it around a bit, but this should give you a wide enough ar...
