Proteomic Biomarkers as Mediators in the Association Between Air Pollution and Incident Depression and Anxiety: Evidence From the UK Biobank
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40611827/

Conclusion: The findings of this large population-based cohort study provide proteomic evidence on the mediating protein associations between air pollution and the onset of depression. The results suggest that the immune system plays a significant role in the biological mechanisms linking air pollution to depression and anxiety.

Association of ambient air pollutants with maternal thyroid hormones during the entire pregnancy
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40610641/

...The results indicate that exposure to ambient PM10, PM2.5, and NO2 throughout the entire pregnancy adversely affects thyroid hormones, implying potential health implications of air pollution on maternal thyroid function.

Impacts of subway air particles on healthy adults: a randomized controlled trial in a Chinese city
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40629394/

Conclusions: This study provides the first evidence that repeated exposure to subway airborne particles is associated with reduced lung function and increased respiratory and systemic inflammation in healthy adults. Our results underscore the need to develop strategies to mitigate exposure risks, ultimately protecting public health in urban environments.

Associations between ambient particulate matter exposure and the prevalence of arthritis: Findings from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40627661/

Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is the first study to identify a significant association between long-term exposure to PM₁, PM₂.₅, PM₁₀ and the secondary inorganic aerosol constituents NH₄ and NO₃, and the prevalence of self-reported arthritis in middle-aged and older adults. However, owing to its cross-sectional design, the absence of subtype differentiation and reliance on self-reported diagnoses, these findings may be influenced by reverse causation and measurement error, and should therefore be interpreted with caution.

Associations between prenatal exposure to air pollution and infant growth trajectories in the first two years: Exploring potential sexual dimorphism and sensitive windows

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40639597/

Results: Compared to the moderate-stable WAZ trajectory, exposure to air pollutants (excluding O3) during the 2nd trimester was positively associated with an increased risk of a high-stable WAZ trajectory in female infants. The WQS and BKMR results also indicated that 2nd-trimester exposure to a mixture of air pollutants was associated with an increased risk of a high-stable WAZ trajectory in female infants, with SO2 and NO2 identified as key pollutants. Additionally, the 2nd trimester was identified as a sensitive window for the effects of PM2.5, NO2, SO2, and CO on the high-stable WAZ trajectory in female infants.

Conclusion: Exposure to air pollution during the 2nd trimester is positively associated with the risk of the high-stable WAZ trajectory in female infants.

The relationship between chronic air pollution exposure, neighborhood environmental vulnerability, and adverse COVID-19 morbidities among hospitalized New York City residents
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40651278/

Results: From March to June 2020 (within hospital catchment), adjusted estimates generally suggest greater chronic NO2, PM2.5, and BC was associated with increased risk of ARDS, pneumonia, and dialysis, and not associated with discharge and ventilation; inverse estimates found for chronic O3. Relationships between air pollution and adverse COVID-19 were generally stronger among those with greater neighborhood environmental vulnerability. For example, chronic NO2 and pneumonia's relationship was stronger in individuals within higher NEVI tertiles (T1: aRR: 1.13, 95%CI: 1.02-1.25; T2: aRR: 2.11, 95%CI: 1.73-2.56; T3: aRR: 6.36, 95%CI: 4.71-8.60).

Physical activity in the relationship between multiple air pollutants exposure and risk of hypertension: a prospective cohort study in China
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40634465/

..Higher concentrations of air pollution were linked to a heightened risk of developing hypertension among Chinese adults; however, physical activity may help mitigate this elevated risk.

Association between ambient air pollution and cardiovascular disease mortality: An individual-level case-crossover study in Hefei, China
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40633190/

Conclusions: Short-term exposure to ambient air pollutants significantly increases CVD mortality risk in Hefei, particularly among females and during warm seasons. These findings underscore the need for targeted public health interventions to mitigate pollution-related cardiovascular risks.

Short-term exposure to ambient air pollution increased in-hospital non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction mortality risk, but not ST-elevation myocardial infarction: case-crossover based evidence from Beijing, China

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40620562/

Conclusion: Short-term exposure to PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NO2, and CO increases the risk of in-hospital AMI mortality, particularly for NSTEMI. Individuals with CAD history require more protective measures due to the vulnerability to air pollution.
