English/Polish Phrase Translations for Euromedic People

OK, folks this was in sunlounger's thread, but many people may not see it, so I'm starting a new topic. I need the help of people who have been to Katowice (especially, but not only them, anyone can help), to create lists to help English-speaking patients and Polish-speaking nurses to communicate at the hospital, since it will likely be a while before they have time to take courses in English.

I have a preliminary list of phrases that patients would use to communicate with Euromedic nurses. I will send it to Iwona (if she's still around), but anyone who would like to see and/or add to the list should let me know by e-mail (click on my e-mail link below).

By the way, if someone has Iwona's e-mail address, in case she is not on TiMS frequently, please let me know.

Also, if there are any nurses in the audience, especially those who have been liberated or have had a friend liberated, could you please send me a list that the Euromedic nurses could use to explain things or give instructions to patients, please send them to me, as well.

Also, in case Iwona is not around, are there others who can help with the translations? If so, please e-mail me.

ndwannabe, here is the preliminary list, but it would be a lot easier to work with a MS Word file. Note that for some of these phrases we have already the Polish in the thread you indicated, but without the proper accents etc.

Fiddler,

If you need "Polish accents" which are not actually accents but different letteres which you pronaunce differently I can translate it but believe me it doesnt make any difference if Polish person is just reading it. She or he will understand it perfectly. Actually in common communication when we send text messages via mobile phone we don't even use those Polish letters.

Anyhow when you have the list ready you can send it to me and I will be more than happy to help with translation

Everyone, there are three MS Word documents containing preliminary (very preliminary) lists: one list for patients to use to explain things to nurses, one for nurses to explain things to patients, and one of general instructions and advice to patients. Iwona has already started translating the list for patients to use to explain things to nurses, but please feel free to suggest any additions or modifications. The list for nurses to explain things to nurses is only my first thoughts so please add your own ideas, but perhaps you can start doing the translation of that list, Mila? And there is lots of work needed in the general instructions part.

Thanks to Mila, the list of phrases for nurses is now translated and uploaded to the site indicated above - Thanks, Mila! But I'm sure that there are additional phrases we need, so please go to the link above, download the document(s), and make suggestions. Perhaps there are some nurses out there who could help?

Folks, thanks to Iwona and Mila, the "phrase list and translations for patients" and the "phrase list and translations for nurses" have been translated and uploaded to the site I noted above. While I expect that the Euromedic people will begin printing this for patients, anyone going to Poland may wish to download and print them for themselves, just in case.

Note that each list has a date on it. If I get new, additional changes to any of these lists (or the general instructions, which has lots of work to be done on it), I will upload it and let you know.

I forgot to say that some Dutch volunteers will be producing Dutch versions of the lists very soon. Any other language volunteers out there? For example, a French version. I could do the French version, but it would be slow going and it would better if it was someone whose first language is French to do it.
