I am seeing my GP this week. I am going to mention that I intend to get my veins checked and get the treatment in New York. But a main concern for me is who I should see after the treatment, when I'm home in Winnipeg. (Canada) Should my GP just be the doctor I turn to post treatment? Or should I ask to see a vascular surgeon or rather an interventional radiologist? (But why and do I have the term correct?) What if I have ccomplications? (Stent moves, clots)
Should you have an ultrasound a few weeks later but isn't there a specific technique to it ? (NO ONE WILL KNOW THAT HERE I DON'T THINK-IN WINNIPEG)
If anyone from Winnipeg who has had the treatment reads this please let me know what your plans are. Thanks a bunch!
Your GP may have to monitor you on whatever anticoagulant you are put on, if you are put on one.
If you have complications, you would need to see a local interventional radiologist. These are the guys who do procedures through the blood vessels, with minimal entry incision; the vascular surgeons are the ones with a scalpel, as I understand it, which is not needed for this.
Will you go back to NY for a two-month or six-month follow-up? There might not be much for other options for getting blood flow checked locally. You will probably have whatever imaging is done pre- and post-procedure, so many those could be of use to a local IR to compare for a later follow-up?
