Post-Op questions please

Post by adamt »

Hi all,
I have a few questions about post-balloon angio procedure

I was liberated last week - balloon angio of both jugulars - as they enter the chest, blockages were 30-50%,
each side was ballooned twice

I also have May Thurner syndrome (compressed/narowed left illiac vein) but i am still waiting to get this ballooned/stented.
Hopefully will be done in a few months time.

1)
I have drawn a blue line where the blood slightly refluxed / where the 30-50% stenosis was.

As the Jugulars were only narrowed as they enter the chest - in line with both collar bones, i am wondering if my chances of restenosis slimmer than someone who had the stenosis in the neck?

I thought as the stenosis is at the top of the chest and not in the neck, am i more or less likely to restenose?

2)
What are the things i should or shouldnt do, now that i am liberated?

3)
I weight train 3x a week, i lift heavy and quite intensively for me, but have always noticed how my legs get a lot weaker during and after training

i guess this is because as my heart rate is rising more blood is getting pumped round the body, so more blood is getting blocked in the veins- jugulars and illiac vein (May Thurner)

So i haven't lifted weights for 2 weeks, is it advised to not start weight training for longer?
or is it 'safe' for my veins to train again?

4)
I have been using a 'Circulation booster' for the last year as i thought as im not moving around a lot its best to improve circulation of my lower body.

It is this one:
http://www.circulationbooster.co.uk/

I use it for 30mins in the morning and 30mins in the afternoon,

But i was wondering is this wise to use when i know i have May-Thurner - a blocked/compressed Left illiac vein?

Or would it be good for M-T?

Thanks for any opinions

Hi Adam,
I like the look of that booster....my husband could use some circulation!! How has it been for you after you have used it...things better or worse?
About your question of the stenosis being at the top of your chest, I wonder if the weight lifting could be adding to the compression of that area (as in CTOS).

Hi Why,

I didnt really noticed much changes with my mobility by using the circulation booster, but i know improving my circulation cant be a bad thing, well i hope it isnt as i have May Thurner.

I agree to not do heavy lifting. When you hold your breath when making an effort you are doing a Valsalva maneuver which can create reflux even in normal individuals. Just do exercises where you do not have to hold your breath.

Always keep in mind your thoracic pump (and good advice on the weightlifting above) works by respirations. Anything aerobic sounds good at this point, assuming of course you're physically able and not contraindicated by your Dr. Heart rate is great, but as the above said, the valsalva is not going to help any of us at this point. The inspiration/exhalation cycle is doubly important to us who had issues getting that blood "downstairs". Assume an adjustment period too, your body is getting used to it's newfound flow. It will take many months before you are (more) certain of what is staying put and what is not, improvements-wise. Nice pics!

Collarbone area is a frequent flyer in the CCSVI world, and around the ear. I don't know if there is any collated data on restenosis locations, that's an interesting question.

I'll leave it all in the hands of my neuro, all CCSVI/MS discush aside, "but how do you FEEL?". That's all he wanted to know in the end...

Nunzio: I dont hold my breathe when lifting weights,
i inhale before lifting and exhale while lifting

so i never hold my breathe

CureIous: i think i will do as recommended and not lift heavy, but to lift lightly for a month or two., so my heart rate doesnt rise so much

Does anyone else have any opinions on these questions:

2)
What are the things i should or shouldnt do, now that i am liberated?

4)

Also is there any other opinions of stenosis possibility as the CCSVI was near the collar bone - not in the neck ?

I would of thought as i cant move the upper chest area, restenosis is less likely,

or does it not work like that?

thanks :)

For the last q there, I don't think it works like that. Restenosis seems to either be because of a clot forming in the area or because of "elastic recoil" which is the vein retaking its accustomed shape. I can't see that location would affect this. But I think it might be one question that will be answered in the research in the years to come.

thanks cece, i guess it doesnt matter which area is more likely to restenose,
if i restenose, i restenose, its irrelevant which area is more likely to

any answers for these 2 wuestions....
