Inflamed Eye Vessels - related to MS?

Post by WARALF »

Over the past 8mnths I have had 4 occurances of what looks like inflamed and broken blood vessels in the eye. One eye at a time, which returns to normal after a week or so. I've never had these before this time.
I was dx with MS about 8 yrs ago - R&R. I am quite mobile and compared to alot of sufferers I am quite fortunate. In the last two instances I know I've had a headache stemming from my neck which followed by the painful eye problem.
My vision is minorly affected in comparison to the severe pain I feel in behind the eye, especially when I look down. (Most of the redness is in the inner half, worse towards the top). My last episode was relatively minor compared to the first three, but I did see an optometrist immediately.
My optometrist dx it with a big name I don't remember, more importantly it being one of those idiopathic conditions (no known cause), but that in most cases in was not common for it to be painful. She did not believe it was associated with the MS, but did state it was likely to reoccur. She prescribed a steriod eye drop. I am only on LDN for the MS (with 8-10,000 Vit D daily).
Has anyone else out there ever had such episodes, if so did you find any causes, or any association with the MS?

Was this a neuro opthalmologist? My general said the same to me, as I've had the same symptoms recurring in my left eye where 90% of my symptoms have been since day one. I get a mil-moderate cluster headache around eye and the eye lid is usually swollen. I remember a day laying out in the pool when this was active, and my eye felt like someone was pressing their thumb into my eye socket.. it was soo painful. Of course I went inside and it subsided.. :?:

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I did notice the swollen eye lids too, the opposite of the affected eye is usually worse, but I thought this was because of the additional strain or perhaps I was rubbing. Interesting. I live in Sask. Canada. I am not familiar with what a "neuro opthamologist' is - whether we would have this same medical terminology in our part of the world or not. I am betting the nearest one is halfway across Canada from me. Do you have leads as to where I could search to see if we have this type of eye professional. Is there a 'professional association' for them I could search? Any info is appreciated.

I see your predicament... try an eye doctor with exp. treating patients with neurological disorders. Research the opthalmologists in your area paying close attention to their expertise and credentials.. GOOD LUCK! and don't give up!!

Thanks.. I've done a little research ... this list of 'qualified' is pretty small. But thanks to openning my eyes to this possibility.
