Is this size of IJV dilation ok?

Post by dc10 »

I was re-ballooned / liberated for the 3rd time in May this year,

just reading through the paperwork post liberation i didnt really understand this:

he dilated the right IJV 'proximally until 10mm, distally until 18mm, the left jugular vein until 16mm'.

Percutaneous exploration of the aygos vein showed hypoplasia and several stenosis dilated until 10mm.

The IR said he ballooned more aggressively as the first procedure restenosed after 4 weeks, and in the 2nd procedure an area of stenosis (right collar bone area) was missed.

- all 3 procedures were performed by different IR due to the missed areas by the first 2.

I just wanted to check with others that the IR didnt balloon my veins too wide/large that it is not wise to?
or if the size dilated is acceptable?

It depends on the size of your vein.
An 18 mm balloon in a vein that is 18 mm is very different than an 18 mm balloon in a vein that is half that size.
