Copaxone and the Common Cold

Post by SpringsJessica »

Has anyone had their ISRs worsen when a cold was coming on?

I had foot surgery on 12.9.11, followed by a cold that lasted 3 weeks. In all 6 weeks of "recovery." My ISRs worsened during that time. To the point last week, the IS were hard, red, inflamed, and up to 3" in diameter for 2-3 days post injection with a large hard bump lasting for up to 8 days.

I get these reactions sometimes depending on where I inject.
I assume for the surgery you stopped copaxone for a while??
When I stopped it for a week it was like starting over with the IRS.

Jessica:
I too am underweight and on copaxone (thinking about alternatives). My little "bird legs" are sore as the devil, and my little arms also got taken out of the regular rotation. Now I learn that the hot flashes, which got worse after a few months on the injections, exacerbate MS symptoms. Guess I am going to have to do more research.

Let me know if you have found a healthy way to gain weight!

LR1234: Actually, my neurologist and Shared Solutions didn't think I should go off the Copaxone for my surgery.

Meredith: My husband recommended I start a protein drink regimen as a supplement. So far, I have found a rice based protein shake that is gluten free. Still need to read more about it to see if it would meet other nutritional requirements to fit in the Best Bet Diet. Then again, since I would consume it daily, that would totally blow the low rice consumption.

I have been repeatedly told by Shared Solutions to NOT stop any of the injection sites. My neurologist recommended that I play with my body fat areas. The problem is, my BMI is 19% and its a struggle to keep it there.

As of Friday, I stopped Copaxone. I've decided to go an alternative route and visit my acupuncturist to see what he can recommend. This decision is not one I made overnight and is something I've struggled with. The truth is though, I was scared and intimidated into starting something ASAP and Copaxone seemed like the least of all the evils presented to me.

Wishing you the best of luck!

It turned out I didn't start Copaxone until afterward, but neither the surgeon or neuro saw any need to stop it for my back surgery...

RRMS dx 3/3/11; Copaxone since 12/1/11
