Number of Lesions when Diagnosised

My husband has been recently (6months) diagnosised with primary progressive MS, He had over 100 lesions when they did his MRI, he has had a follow up MRI this past week, we havent seen the results yet. My question is....Is that alot of lesions? Does that indicate anything about his disease progression? I have tried to google it, but have only found people dignosised with much smaller amounts of lesions? I am so confused and so worried, we have 3 young children and he is only 40 and he has very reduced mobility already. What are we in for and how should we prepare? Thanks in advance.

I cannot answer that question other than what i have or had. my first MRI showed around 8-10 lesions in my brain and none on my spine. My second MRI from a couple weeks ago (which i have not seen) shows two lesions on my spine and one new one on my brain. From what i know, lesions on the spine are not ideal. I am moving toward HSCT.

Welcome to our community,wenditash; there are no definite answers for MS, but we will share our experiences in answer to your questions. There are reports of autopsies done on people diagnosed with MS – people who had severe symptoms – but NO lesions were found at autopsy. There are also many cases of people who have MANY lesions, but no MS symptoms. Some "experts" think there is no correlation between number of lesions and the course of MS.
No one can predict how it will go for your husband.

OMG - it is hard to know what to say. My husband was diagnosed in 2000. It has been quite a journey. Anyhow, from what I understand, the # of lesions does not signify the clinical progression. My husband's MRI don't look too bad, but yet he has progressed rapidly. We too have 3 kids.
