Dr. Michael Arata from the American clinic was at the event and explained some of the science behind the treatment which is not available in Canada. He was clear that CCSVI (Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency) treatment is not a cure for MS and not specifically a treatment for MS. Rather it is a treatment for autonomic dysfunction, but it can have significant effects in those suffering from neurological disorders such as MS and Parkinson disease.

Thank you to Dr. Arata for speaking to the difference between CCSVI and MS. I see it as important to separate out the two so that research proceeds on the vascular side of the equation, research on a vascular treatment of a vascular disease, regardless of what is being accomplished on the neurological side of the equation. That said, I don't know if I accept the proposition that CCSVI treatment treats autonomic dysfunction and nothing more. We had a list of symptoms of CCSVI, do those all fit in the autonomic category? Fatigue, cogfog, weakness, blurred vision. I don't think cogfog is autonomic.
