New symptoms for me

Post by Shanberger »

When you have a flare up, can you feel burning in both legs and arms at the same time? My little toe on left foot is also feeling a little numb. Usually it's just my ankles and feet but today it's feels like the burning is more severe and on both legs. Face even feels flushed.

In my experience, yes. It might not be a flare. It might just be heat, or stress, or other factors making things worse.

Since my neuropathy, paresthesias and other nerve pain sensations emerged during the flare which led to my diagnosis, they have gotten worse and faded and gotten worse at random intervals, but never completely gone away. Gabapentin helps, but doesn't solve the problem. Meditation/ awareness of the pain also helps somewhat. Trying not to be afraid of it, upset by it, also seems to help somewhat.

I'm having an EMG next week b/c I have not been dx'd yet. I just know something is wrong. My neuro says because I have had 4 MRI's over the last 10 years of the brain, With no lesions, I don't have MS. Do you have any of the eye problems? Or motor problems?

You may want to ask your doctor if he's willing to look for biomarkers of grey matter damage if white matter lesions aren't showing up on MRI.

There's a possibility that grey matter damage may be a precursor to white matter damage, and it may be possible to find indicators of MS this way, especially if you are having symptoms despite a clear MRI. See:

Everyone is different, as is every relapse. I feel no burning, but have other symptoms.

Did you also have a spine mri? You should get one.

It sounds like nerve pain to me, (I'm no doctor, just a patient). But nerve pain can be caused by issues with the peripheral nerves (not ms), or by physical interference with central or peripheral nerves, like spinal stenosis or bulging disks, as well as by central nervous system issues like MS.

If your neurologist is no help, you could consult with a physiatrist or pain specialist. I really hope you don't have MS. And yes, I have so far mild versions of most of the typical MS issues. My least favorite is the pain in my face, but especially when overheated, I get a wide variety of symptoms including motor issues and eye issues.
