White outs. Curious about MS
White outs. Curious about MS
Ever since I can remember I have been intolorant of heat. Even as a child I avoided showers because I would get weak feeling and occasionally lose my vision. Everything would turn white like I was starring at the sun. I still have problems with this and occasionally I'm not overheated. I just lose my vision. I've had some other problems that have made me look at ms to possibly be an explanation. Fatigue is a huge problem as well as headaches .I've lost a bunch of feeling in one of my thighs which started about 6 years ago with a burning tingling sensation which after about a year disappeared and now the area just feels numb. Bladder problems & occasional blurred vision which drives me nutts. I'm wondering with the white outs and the numbness in my thigh if it does or doesn't sound like ms. Thanks

Welcome to ThisIsMS, Indiemom.
You have asked if your set of symptoms "does or doesn't sound like MS." It is possible that your symptoms are manifestations of MS – most of us have experienced some or all of them, BUT… many other conditions have the same symptoms.
I suggest you start with your GP. Give him a list of the symptoms you have posted here. He can begin to order tests to rule out the other likely possibilities causing your symptoms. You might discuss with him these guidelines:

We are here for any further questions you have. All the best to you

My hypothesis: excess insulin (hyperinsulinemia) plays a major role in MS, as developed in my initial post: http://www.thisisms.com/forum/general-discussion-f1/topic1878.html "Insulin – Could This Be the Key?"

I would tell your doctor exactly what you wrote here. I would expect a neurology referral. If one is not immediately offered, ask for one.
You might also get an Opthalmology exam. Very sorry to hear such a characteristic set of symptoms. I hope it's something else. Good luck.

Re: White outs. Curious about MS
Heat intolerance is a classic symptom of MS and so are your other symptoms. But that doesn't mean that you have MS. I would STRONGLY suggest that you see your family doctor and get referred to the closest MS clinic for a thorough examination. While this site can offer a ton of excellent suggestions and opinions, you really need to get properly assessed. The best of luck.Indiemom wrote:Ever since I can remember I have been intolorant of heat. Even as a child I avoided showers because I would get weak feeling and occasionally lose my vision. My mom is the one that suspects ms, and told me to google last week. I saw that the symptoms are similar i just didn't read anything that sounded like what I'm experiencing with everything turning white & briefly being unable to see. Same thing with my leg. I've read about tingling and numbness but didnt know if people experienced numbness that became permanent. I do plan to try and get a referral to a neurologist as soon as I can get some medical insurance, but I was hoping to see if these where or weren't other people's experiences. Even though I have read a great deal already i still don't really understand the disease. Most sites state the symptoms but its so vague. Thanks all of you for the replies. I really appreciate it.
