I haven't ordered anything, yet, and, btw, Jimmylegs, I haven't picked up the rx for potassium either.
NHE, do you have any personal experience with Albion?? My reason for asking: A couple of years ago, I purchased CoQ10 from my chiro.......for about $30 a bottle! (But only ONCE) He said, 'blah, blah, blah...... you don't know what you are getting in stores because supplements aren't regulated....blah, blah, blah and mine are better.' At the time, while having the Tysabri infusion, I mentioned it to my nurse. All he could do was shake his head. (Did I mention I'm blonde?? hehe) It's true, we don't really know if it has more fillers, etc., so all I can do is ask about individual experiences. Get it??? Thanks so much. Your input is much appreciated:)

I had just finished writing this when you posted:
question: does it say on the potassium script, what form of potassium and how many mgs per day?
here's a potassium supplement example... http://www.rxlist.com/slow-k-drug.htm
it is 600mg. you need 3500-4200mgs of potassium daily, if memory serves.
that's quite a few pills.. but when I first bought a potassium supplement off the shelf, vs over the counter, it was only 99mg. how useless! I didn't know any better at the time.
fyi some food options (info comes from http://www.nutritiondata.com)
1c of boiled beet greens gets you around 1300mgs (comes with 687 mgs sodium which is high but in a healthy proportion K:Na-wise - ie, 2:1)
magnesium approx. 100mg which helps too
ah my good friend swiss chard. had a cup of this with dinner last night. I usually eat this with magnesium in mind - 100mg per one cup serving of boiled chard (boil for 3 min to reduce oxalic acid content) interesting, not as awesome on the K:Na ratio. 960mg K to 725mg Na. I will have to look into getting beet greens more often!
also: spinach-feta pie anyone? great ratio, and awesome magnesium content to go with:
1c boiled spinach (you only have to do 1 min for spinach)
Potassium 839mg
Sodium 551mg
great for magnesium too - 157 mg
on the fruit side:
1c of raw cantaloupe will get you around 475 mg of potassium with negligible sodium.
1c tinned apricot halves should get you about 465 mg of potassium, also with minimal sodium..
1 med banana should provide ~420mg of potassium, and no sodium to speak of.
beyond that, you get down into the oranges and grapefruits etc, but if you rely on those for potassium you need to eat 10 cups per day to meet daily requirement!

I usually take Now Foods brand of magnesium citrate just because it's less expensive. However, I have a family member that takes the Albion magnesium glycinate from Vitacost. I've taken a couple and they seem fine. They're actually easier to swallow than the Now Foods brand. The edges are more tapered so they don't get caught up in my throat like the Now Foods tablets do.chowder1 wrote:Thanks NHE
