Rash & red itchy spots

Post by Misstazz »

Hi, I'm having a problem that I don't think any others are having. Or I haven't found it yet. I have a small rash on my forehead and the whole forehead itches like crazy. I also have red itchy spots on my upper body. The body spots I know started with the med. I've put cortisone, coconut oil, and a campor salve on both, they don't help. A Benadril cuts it some. But I itch All the time. I don't have any coated asprin, but I'm taking 4 baby asprin, and following the eating suggestions. I'm wondering if some of this is from MS? Any ideas??

Hi Misstazz & welcome! I'm not a doctor, but the rash and spots are very typical of an allergic reaction to something -- which is likely to be your new med, since they started along with the med. Even though they're not life threatening (yet), you should contact your doctor immediately and keep your Benadryl handy.

I know that often an allergy isn't instant, but one's body can develop a more severe reaction after you've taken something long enough to develop antibodies to it. That's always been a concern of mine (lots of slight allergies/sensitivities to foods) -- that just because I didn't react the first time I ate a food, or take a med for example, that I have to be vigilant for a later reaction the next time I try it.

The rash is not likely to be just from MS.

Good luck!
Dx'd with MS & HNPP (hereditary peripheral neuropathy) 7/03 but must have had MS for 30 yrs before that. I've never taken meds for MS except 1 yr experiment on LDN. (I found diet, exercise, sleep, humor, music help me the most.)

Thank you, I'm positive the red itchy spots are an allergy to them med. The forehead, not so much I may have had that before the meds. My skin has always been oily, now it's very dry & itchy. I called my dr last week, he advised the asprin & Prilosac. But they aren't helping. I'll call again today. Any ideas what to put on it? I wake up itching and go to bed the same....

Hi again Miss,
Since I'm also sensitive (if not actually allergic) to antihistamines.... I don't swallow any of them. But I do have bottles of Benadryl GEL around my house when I break out in hives regularly. It happens when I eat stuff, touch stuff (i.e., cardboard & adhesives), and even talk or think about stressful stuff (stress hives). It usually soothes things pretty well.

Apparently I'm not officially & deathly allergic to anything I've been tested for, thus no anaphylactic shock -- just lots of hives, itching, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. I've also found some lotions that help to soothe my generally neuropathic appendages -- like Gold Bond brand stuff. (I have a hereditary peripheral neuropathy AND MS.)

BTW - I think the aspirin & Prilosec are prescribed for the Tecfidera stomach issues -- NOT for the allergic-type bumps & itching you're getting.

Thank you, I'll try some gel. The dr didn't address the allergic reaction. When I mentioned Benadril he said, "Oh no. Just use the asprin & Prilosec." That didn't make any sense to me for the rash, but I do have stomach issues too.
