I don't mean to be so harsh, but I disagree with the following statement from the article

"They are produced within the brain and spinal cord, and are closely related to each other, suggesting that they have a common target (that is what oligoclonal means)."

Oligo actually means "several." Oligoclonal means "several clones." In other words, there is no single target of the antibodies in multiple sclerosis. The truth is the exact opposite of what the article is implying. This is common in a lot of autoimmune disease such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis where there are several autoantibody targets, not just one. Diseases like neuromyelitis optic, NMDA encephalitis, and myasthenia gravis can be caused by a single (monoclonal) auto-antibody.

There are many studies revealing different auto-antibodies in multiple sclerosis such as anti-MAG, anti-MOG, and anti-PLP. MS is polyclonal. this is well known
