got cog fog?

Post by jimmylegs »

if so, what's your zinc intake (esp in relation to established dietary drains on zinc retention/utilization) and level??

Zinc status (intake and level) of healthy elderly individuals in Riyadh and its relationship to physical health and cognitive impairment (2020)
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a ... 9319301356

"In this study, subjects with plasma zinc level lower than 65 μg/dL was defined as zinc deficiency"

Table 2. Daily zinc intake of the study participants based on DRI.
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a ... 01356#tbl2
"A significant decrease was observed in the mean dietary zinc intake of both men and women compared with the DRI values (p = 0.03) (p = 0.02) respectively."

Table 3. Differences between plasma zinc level groups.
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a ... 01356#tbl3
"The mean plasma zinc concentration was 70 ± 2.34 μg/dL, 36% of studied participants had zinc deficiency."

"A significant positive correlation was found between plasma zinc concentration and AMTS (abbreviated mental test score) in all study participants (Fig. 1) and both men (Fig. 2) and women (Fig. 3) (r = 0.31, p < 0.001), (r = 0.35, p < 0.001), and (r = 0.29, p < 0.001) respectively"

compare the guidance reference interval 80 - 120 μg/dl on p.496 in https://bit.ly/2VTG3j2

if 80 had been used to define zinc deficit in this study, the average subject (ie mean 70 ± 2.34 μg/dL) and well over half of total study subjects (because 80 would sit in the right tail of the curve) would have been considered zinc deficient.
