looks like the calcium blinkers are still on firmly ... :
https://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/14/8/1575/htm
still waiting for someone to bother tracking other things, like perhaps magnesium intakes, balance, and serum levels before and after high dose d3 over multi-year time frames.
i continue to wonder about d3 excretion at higher intakes - i'd still like to have a better understanding of what was going on in this study:
Soft-tissue mineralization of bullfrog larvae (Rana catesbeiana) at a wastewater treatment facility (2010)
https://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/14/8/1575/htm
"Total serum calcium concentrations of tadpoles and calcium concentrations in water samples did not differ significantly
with increasing distance from the discharge site. Affected tadpoles had elevated cholecalciferol (25-OHvitamin D3) levels. ... The prevalence of lesions was correlated with proximity of cells to the initial wastewater discharge site, and 28.5% of bullfrog larvae in the first cells had lesions. None were affected in the fifth cells."
i think we've seen elsewhere in human studies (TBD), that renal calcification can happen in consequence of high d3 intake, and without elevated serum calcium levels...
after over a decade, i'm finally nearing the bottom of my little bottle of 1,000,000 IU/gm drops. when it's done, i'm going to switch to a sublingual spray. i'm really interested in dose response, ie how many 1000Iu sprays to maintain a 125-150 nmol/l serum level. TBD.
here's hoping that firing d3 straight into my bloodstream that way, will help minimize any potentially damaging downstream effects!

still Ca! smh Re: vit D

Re: all things vitamin D
so recently, my level tested at 100 nmol/l and the specialist said get it to 150. i'm still using up this ancient vial of hi-test drops, and dosing with a worn out dropper that can't be read for trying. i just did some dose response math based on current regimen and level, figured i'll add one extra drop a week, and see what happens. result: 157 nmol/l - not too shabby for guesswork!

just realized it's time for the midweek D3 'mystery megadose'
meanwhile, just spotted this in the mainstream media:
How an increasingly popular supplement landed a man in the hospital

content typically vacant where level targets, and any cofactor considerations (other than Ca) are concerned!

Re: all things vitamin D
That person took 50,000 IU 3x/day! That's an insanely huge dose. When I was vitamin D deficient at 8 ng/mL, I took 50,000 IU 1/week for 10 weeks. This protocol brought my level back up to 47 ng/mL. I now take 5000 IU/day just to keep my level stable in the 45 ng/mL range.jimmylegs wrote: ↑Wed Jul 06, 2022 11:51 am meanwhile, just spotted this in the mainstream media:

Re: all things vitamin D
it was nuts for sure.
the most i ever do (or recommend to others if results suggest it'd be useful) is the established 50K IU/d x 10 d approach, then re-check levels.
i like the quick results after a 500,000 IU input total over 10 days - and conveniently, some bottles of drops are exactly that much total - 500 drops.

Re: all things vitamin D
so i recently, FINALLY used up my ultra potent D3 drops that i knew 6 drops a week was enough.
with that gone, i decided to try off the shelf sublingual. started with 4K IU/d. went for a test, levels came back 200 nmol/l :O
and that one specialist said sublilngual wouldn't work. agree to disagree!
have backed off to 3000 IU/d now.
