Some research on ALA / MS use doses such as 1200mg. I checked the fine print on mine and it's..100mg.
I'm curious what others are taking? NHE encouraged me to look into ALAs impact on brain atrophy...
How much alpha lipoic acid?
Re: How much alpha lipoic acid?
I take 200 mg/g of Na-R-Lipoate. It's absorbed roughly 3x better than R-Lipoic Acid so the equivalent dose is 600 mg/day. This is the same dose used in research by Dennis Bourdette at Oregon Health Science University.

However, Dennis Bourdette's research utilized Alpha Lipoic Acid which is a 50/50 mix of the R and S forms. The S form of Lipoic Acid has a physiological cost to it and is less effective than the R form. Please see the following post for a discussion of the differences between the R and S forms.

Re: How much alpha lipoic acid?
I give to my wife 2x240mg Na-R-Lipoate from Life Extention.
If NHE is right it is equivalent to more than 1200mg researchers use.
Re: How much alpha lipoic acid?
NHE and DJM thanks for your response. I'll aim for 200 of R-Alpha-Lipoic Acid (twice what's on the bottle as the recommended dose). May I ask both of you while this supplement is a strong antioxidant is there a super supplement to target inflammation? I maintain a low-inflammation diet + exercise + lots of sleep but want to do more.
Re: How much alpha lipoic acid?
Hi CAGirl,
Curcumin functions as an anti-inflammatory. I would recommend an absorption enhanced formulation as plain curcumin is nearly nearly useless. It's modified by the liver and very little is absorbed. I take Longvida Curcumin. However, CurQfen Curcumin would also be a good choice.
