Media, Health News and Explaining Study Findings
Here's an interesting column by the Washington Post Health bloggers on the media and health news:Rx: Take health news with a grain of salt
Even better, since Zamboni's eagerly awaited journal article should be out tomorrow (per Cheer) the column has a link to Explaining Study Findings by The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice and from there, these links:
Number Glossary
Statistics Glossary
Questions to Guide Reporting
How to Highlight Study Cautions
I'm never quite able to grasp all the "ins and outs" of study data and I think the info in those links will be helpful as we encounter various reports about the CCSVI research. For example, there's this quote from Dr. John Richert, executive vice president for research and clinical programs at the NMSS, about Zamboni's study results: Radical MS Theory Stirs Interest
Richert also noted
Take care all--oh yeah, Jennifer Huget from the Post (one of their health bloggers) has MS so I'm eagerly waiting her take on Zamboni's study and CCSVI.

I would love to see the changes in placebo groups in major drug trials, maybe the NMSS could post that info on their site. The changes that they saw, Richert said, are similar to those "that we tend to see in placebo groups in major drug trials."

Ok, enough alright already--I think we need to be informed advocates and I for one am not too informed on analzying data.the MS society is "anticipating" proposals for a randomized trial of the surgery by its February grant deadline.
