All of you are interested in the things that I'm continuously working on! I'm posting here because there's so much I'd like to communicate. Most of all, I'd like to revolutionize the way we think and talk about ultraviolet. UV rays are much more complicated than the categories assigned to them. Broken down into UVA, UVB, and UVC, the effects (+ and -) are still quite complicated for such a simple groupings, especially for different organisms.

By the way, I'm the founder of Rayminder, and have been pushing for better research since I quit my Engineering job and devoted myself full-time to finding and fixing what many of us are up against. I don't have MS, but when I saw it all around me, I did my own research. Finally I looked for products to test that met criteria based on my findings. None out there. I made them myself, and have been trying to get them out there to others so the research can get better - UVB is generally 280-320 nm, and sunlight generally has very little UVB for most people. You have to get exposure south of 35 deg. latitude at sea level this time of year (December) in the northern hemisphere. And you must do this precisely at solar noon, when the sun is elevated to the highest point of the day where you are. Otherwise, the UVA to UVB ratio favors UVA to the point the sun is either ineffective, or perhaps counter-effective for certain photochemical reactions. Doctors telling patients to "get some sun" is too vague to be helpful. Going to a tanning bed is not the answer, because the UVA ratio is all wrong. Traditional phototherapy of narrowband UVB is a good start, but ignores the interaction of wavelengths outside of the 311nm narrow range. There are benefits, I believe, to certain wavelengths throughout most of UVB and even some UVA depending on the circumstances:

What organism being studied - you cannot apply findings across species in general
male/female
age
diet
typical daily UV exposure, if any (most, if not all is UVA- glass-filtered sunlight)
genetic profile (predispositions, skin tone, alleles present, known mutations, etc.)
acute and chronic factors- too many to list...malabsorption of any kind, erythemal reaction level (previously to sunlight in summer), and mood or signs of health or illness following periods with/without sunlight (Months following summer solstice vs. months following winter solstice).
