I'm back, a year later, still no answers! desperate!

If it's on your mind and it has to do with multiple sclerosis in any way, post it here.

-Irregular heartbeat which so far never happens around a physician. Probably benign, since they say these things usually are. Comes and goes. But has spiraled upward in terms of frequency and duration of symptoms since I first experienced it 9 years ago my first pg. Not associated with other symptoms (ie no shortness of breath or lightheadedness or anything).

-The thing where you fall asleep and wake up shortly thereafter with your heart pounding, thoughts of death ("impending doom") and an urgent need to pee. (even though you just went to the bathroom before bed, and this is just a few minutes later).

-The thing where if you lay on your left side the sensation of your heart pounding into the bed is just plain annoying. (No problem if sleep on right side.)

-Chest pains w/ intense exercise (running) that are probably soft tissue. Normal EKG after that one happened. So I don't really count this one, but kind of have it in the back of my head just in case.

FYI I'm my healthy weight, moderately active (it varies, but I'm a housewife, so at a minimum, I'm moving around doing housework, gardening, etc.), eat respectably, cholesterol & triglycerides and blood sugar are normal to better-than-normal.

History of heart problems in the family mostly only among people with lifestyle issues. My dad has a benign heart murmur or something though, I don't know what. (He is early sixties, very fit). Hmn, though thinking of it, his uncle did drop dead of heart thing in his mid-60's-70's, and he was a healthy fit guy.

Anyway, there you go. I know my heart isn't quite right, but don't really know that it has a problem. (kind of like: I'm nearsighted. No big deal, corrects with glasses. It can be not quite right without being a problem.) I'm just kind of watching to see what happens.

And yeah, I'll take suggestions. I'm sure you've got something to tell me ;-).

No worries on the hijacking!

Thanks for the post, Jen! As much as I don't wish this experience on my worst enemy, it's comforting to hear of someone who understands where I'm coming from!

Jimmylegs - I grabbed this Magnesium Oxide kind. The first time I took it my stomach hurt a little bit, but it hasn't since. Between that and the B12, I haven't really felt too much of a difference, although, shame on me, I haven't been taking them everyday. Does it take awhile to have an effect? One thing I have def. noticed though is that if I do take them before bed, I sleep a lot better! I used to wake up a couple times through the night, I think just due to stress, and recently I've been sleeping well! Makes sense, since I've read that those two vitamins seem to have a positive effect on the body's ability to handle stress.

heya sally, okay magnesium oxide is one of the forms that are less soluble, meaning harder for your body to absorb. meaning, you don't have to take as much of the oxide form, before you end up with the hershey squirts.

you're right, bedtime magnesium is gold for a good night's sleep. mag is one of the things that help settle down your adrenal gland. if you have half a banana for a bedtime snack it'll probably be even better - a shot of potassium for the magnesium to play with, and some bonus tryptophan to help send you off to dreamland :) the b 12 at night is nice too.

if you want to absorb your magnesium better, next time you could try a mag citrate form - or what brand did we discuss before? refresh my memory?

and if you really up the intake of high magnesium foods that would be another big help for absorption. it's easier to absorb it from food compared to supplements. do you get a good serving or three of dark leafy greens every day? they'd help lots with re-stocking on potassium too.

don't know if you read the cool thing about greens and magnesium before. turns out that the ion in a blood cell that makes it red, is iron. and the ion in a plant's blood cell (chlorophyll) that makes it green, is magnesium.

Hi

Sally, so sorry to see you back, really hope you get answers soon - the unknown is scarier somehow...
Jen & JL - where did you take the 'heart' thread?? Since I have had the same thing for years (my doc says it is 'just' some ectopic beats...), I am very interested
Thanks guys :!:

Hey Jimmylegs!

It has been awhile.. mainly because not much has changed.. unfortunately. Great news on your latest results!!

I have an appt with my neuro on Thursday, but I might have to cancel due to something for work. Deep down, however, I think subconsciously I want to cancel it b/c if I do go, and somehow he agrees to give me an LP (which I'm pretty sure hed think i'd be crazy to ask for since I don't think he thinks I have any sort of demyelination process going on), and it comes back positive, what can he do? He still won't diagnose me from that. And if I do have MS it would have to be PPMS (slow and steady progression from the beginning, lack of inflammation, etc.), which, as we all know, there's not much you can do for it medication-wise. I wouldn't want to pay for another MRI so soon after my last one. As much as I would like to know once and for all if it is MS, the hope of it being something else is making me hold out a little bit longer. I'm thinking I might reschedule my appt for early october. I have some big events coming up in September that I want to be able to enjoy and not be in the middle of *possibly* being diagnosed with MS. Sometimes I think - it has got to be something else. Clear MRI's after two years, PPMS for someone my age (21 when symptoms started), started with vision which is pretty rare for PPMS... and I somehow magically convince myself that it's Lyme. This is embarrassing, but I even carry around this ratty old piece of paper of instances and examples of cases of people who had lyme and share my symptoms. Whenever I start to get nervous and really anxious, I whip it out and it calms me for a little while. A little crazy, I know, but it's getting me through this. Then there are days when I think theres no way in heck it's Lyme and its def. PPMS and I can get incredibly discouraged. Then I can only comfort myself by looking at the CCSVI boards and gaining a little bit of hope. When I do go back to my doc though, and the LP does come back positive, I will absolutely mention that theory to my neuro. I think it might be interesting to see someone with more of an atypical case undergo the testing and possibly the procedure. When/if I do get a diagnosis, you better believe I'll be all over these boards! I really do find this site to be the best!

oh and kind of a funny story... my uncle's father recently has been having numbness in his feet and the feeling of pins and needles, and they couldn't figure out what was going on. B/c of all the time I spent looking into B12 as potential cause for what's going on, I knew this could be a symptom of B12 deficiency. asked if he had had his B12 tested. He said he didn't think so, went back to his doctor, his dr. agreed to have him tested, and wouldn't you know it - it came back low! He's now on B12 injections. Now I know a little bit of what you probably feel like all the time Jimmylegs- helping people with their vitamins!

that's awesome sally! it does feel pretty darned good huh.

can you tell me a little more about your eye problems? because i had problems that might be called eye problems when it turned out my zinc was low. hasn't been a problem zinc i started taking zinc. thought we could compare notes..?

did you ever pick up any supps besides the mag ox and the accidental b2? were you able to ask for any bloodwork? just FYI, i happened on selenium as another MS culprit so you can add that to the list of possible suspects :)
