New Amersterdam just passed a medical cannabis act. New Amersterdam is now going to get as decadent and degenerate as ye Olde one. Among a few other conditions, it will be made available to patients with multiple sclerosis and Parkinsons. It is illegal to smoke it however. Instead, patients will have to injest it or vaporize it in an oil form. Our politicians are concerned about the dangers of MS and Parkinson's patients getting "high" from smoking.
That's unfortunate, especially since it is legal. Medical cannibis needs to be prescribed and studied in patients with MS, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, strokes, migraines, epilepsy, attention deficit disorder and autism for its psychoactive and motor affects. Different strains of cannibis have different THCs and CBDs that mimic chemicals in the brain called endocannabinoids. THCs has psychoactic affects that are useful for calming agitation associated with Alzheimer's, attention deficit disorders and autism. CBDs have motor calming affects that are useful for MS, Parkinson's, seizures and muscle spasms. CBD strains such as Charlotte's Web used for seizures, have little if any psychoactive affects. Parents of children with rare life threatening seizures successfully treated with Charlotte's Web have had a large impact on the current trend in legalization of medical cannibis. Many were forced to break the law and face felony charges in order to save their children's lives, not to get them "high."
Since the opening of the first coffee shops in the Netherlands in 1976 has an idiosyncratic drug policy. It is therefore not unexpected that the very first Netherlands has opted for a practical approach to the debate over medical use of cannabis. Since 2003, pharmaceutical grade cannabis available on prescription by Dutch pharmacies
In the 90s it was becoming apparent that there is a significant group of patients who had used cannabis as medicine, although they were available from the coffee shop. Unfortunately there was not enough scientific evidence available for the use of cannabis as a medicine. However, the Dutch government was increasingly the alleged dangers of cannabis use could no longer outweigh the possible positive effects on some chronically ill people. At However cannabis from coffee is a product that is only tolerated (and is in fact illegal). This means that no guarantee can be given about the quality, composition or origin of the material.

I understand the concerns of Netherland's government about the quality, composition and source of cannabis obtained in a coffe shop rather than a pharmaceutical company. Our governement is likewise concerned about the source and safety of our legal prescription drugs, which is why they wouldn't allow American citizens purchase their medications from Canada for half the price because we can't trust the corrupt Canadians when it comes to the manufacture of presription drugs. It is far safer for us to get many of our prescription drugs, as well as a host of other products from baby's milk and sheetrock to garlic produced and grown in China, which has an exemplary record much closer to our own high standards of ethics, quality and safety.
In case folks aren't aware, CBD oil made from hemp is perfectly legal in the states (you can even get it on Amazon!). My wife finds it helpful for leg pain and twinges. Unfortunately, it's not cheap.
The hemp oil on Amazon by Nutiva is made from hemp seeds - not the buds of the plant. Hemp oil from seeds is a good food source for protein and fatty acids. Like many seeds, the fatty acids are good for circulation and cardiovascular health. It has a nutty flavor and is used in baking in countries where it is legal. Hemp seed oil is also used for lubricants. There is a big difference, however, when it comes to its medicinal value between the oils in seeds and buds of plants. I don't know what type of CBD is found in the seed but there are different types and I doubt that is has the same affect or potency of the buds. I further doubt that the CBD concentration in the seed is the same as in the buds. The medicinal properties of medical cannabis are in the buds of the plant not the seeds. Hemp oil from buds of plants is still illegal.
