Hello David,
The atlas vertebral/C1 can impinge the internal jugulars in cases with reverse curves in the neck called kyphosis. It may be possible in certain cases to relieve the pressure on the internal jugulars with upper cervical care. But it is unlikely that upper cervical care would have much of an impact on the impingment of the azygous between the heart and spine. It may be due to her particular vascular configuration, or she may curvature problems (scoliosis).

Good luck Bestadmom,
You have a tough case as you fell on your head many years ago and more and more evidence is pointing to head injuries as a causative factor in neurodegenerative diseases. Problems typically show up about 12 to 16 years afterwards. Head and neck injuries need to addressed early on before changes in the spine and nervous system become permanent.

Nonetheless, you have a terrific doctor using an excellent upper cervical method. Be patient and give it some time to work.

Hello Dr. Flanagan,
I'm reading this blog with great interest, read your sites and related themes. They give me a lot of hints what's going on with me.
I know that my biggest problem now is my neck, making the MS much worse.
I'm living in Germany. Do you know any doctors or therapeutist trained in upper cervical care here?
I found one in Cologne, wich is pretty far away for me (we Europeans aren used to think a distance of 400 km is very far away). His name is Kay Nickelson, he studied at the Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, U.S.A., is doctor of Chiropractic, is member in the A.U.C.C.O. (Academy of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Organization). His website is www.atlasorthogonal.info/en/atlasorthogonal.htm.
Is this a way to treat neck problems you can recommend?
Thanks a lot for your work, Nici
PS: I've got MS. And problems with my spine (self-diagnosis, all doctors just put the signs it makes into the MS box).

Hello Nici,
Craniosacral is an excellent method for upper cervical and full spine care, but the way it is currently practiced the analysis is far too subjective. I developed a hybrid cranial method based on specific upper cervical that works well.
Specific upper cervical has been around for over seventy years and is tried and true. It uses specific x-rays and specific lines of corrective force to counter the misalignment. Upper cervical has evolved over the decades. Atlas Orthogonal is one of the latest methods. Among other things, it uses a stylus instrument that emits a sound wave rather than the hands to make the correction. I prefer hands on methods myself but Atlas Orthogonal is an excellent method and the doctor in Cologne is board certified in the proceedure. If you have MS signs and symptoms it is your best choice and best chance for success.

Hello Frodo,
The only doctor in the UK I am aware of is Dr. Heidi Grant in London. Dr. Heidi uses NUCCA and is highly recommended by Dr. Chuck Woodfield who is in the NUCCA research division. NUCCA is an excellent method of upper cervical correction. Silverbirch, from this thread, has seen Dr. Heidi and has been very happy with her care and results. Colapesce, who recently joined this thread, just started seeing Dr. Grant and is pleased with her consultation, examination and care so far. Dr. Grant is also board certified in chiropractic neurology.

hello everyone,
Had my first adjustment with Dr Heidi on Thursday. I feel so straight and much more steady. Using her hands she gently did something on my left jaw several times (I was laid on my right side). Now my head, shoulders are hips are either back where they should be, or not far off. Legs are now equal length. I can see the difference in my shoulders when I look in the mirror. Posture is much improved.
This morning I got up and went to the supermarket for food. I'm never up and out so early!
I still have headache and feel a little wobbly but feel much better.
Next appointment is on Tuesday

Almost forgot... I am sleeping much better. I always thought I slept pretty well anyway but now it feels like I sleep deeper. Energy levels have improved too. I guess it's because now I'm not using so much energy concentrating on getting about and balancing my head on an Atlas that isn't in place.
I've also cut out gluten from my diet so maybe this is helping with energy levels.

colapesce - Great to hear you're feeling better! Though I'm sure while it must have felt like she was working on the left side of your jaw it was most likely your Atlas. The contact point on the neck for the Transverse Process of the Atlas can be very close to the jaw especially if it is severely out of alignment. Again, Great to hear you're doing better!
