Hormone Replacement

seems to be helping. so far, my n=1 trial is coming down on the 'yes please' side of the ongoing debate.

Heya Jimmylegs,

I’m glad HRT seems to be doing good things for you. I’ve been tossing around the idea of starting when the time comes myself. (Starting to feel like I might wind up one of those pregnant 70 year olds in the tabloids). Anyway, do you have to eventually stop taking HRT due to possible increased cancer risks? Is it better to endure menopause-related exacerbation when younger and better able to heal or compensate? Or it is better to just delay any damage for as long as possible? Is the effect of stopping Tysabri-like? I’m hoping you’ve run into some of the answers. I can’t find that much about it beyond the Suzanne Somers’ effect. It’s got to be all n=1 at this point.

Be well,

heya! i'm afraid i'm very early on in this particular learning curve. i've done a lot of reading, and am slowly getting closer to starting the conversation with a hopefully-relevant specialist.

i have been looking at HRT (aka MHT)'s potential for neuroprotection/slowing decline, and myelin repair. from what i know so far there is a therapeutic window of opportunity, and after a few years the risks do start to increase. being me, i'd like to know more about how dynamic a might interact with dynamics b thru z etc. more gaps in the research than i'd like ;)

for now, still playing a waiting game. that game being made barely tolerable by one fortunate accident of interim access. i really hope this specialist appointment goes well. kind of bummed that this first meeting is going to be a phone call, but what can you do!

sorry to disappoint! this is a study of interest right now:

although the interim stopgap measures are different, i'm feeling encouraged so far :).

Happy for you! I do hope you’ll share more of the gory details (what tests, target ranges for hormone tinkering, what prescriptions, reactions to prescriptions, etc) when it all comes together.

Thanks JL

I am not sure it says whether this gene expression differential unhelpful or otherwise

I take HRT but having jumped at research findings when I was first diagnosed. I do recall that back then there was concern that the loss of oestrogen might contribute to women faring worse after menopause so I was pretty much signed up on that basis. Plus is helped the night sweats!

I wish you success with your HRT - if you decide to go for it!

yeah over the last three or four years, i was wondering why nutrition wasn't working as well any more. thought it was plain old progression, then i realized it was a hormone situation and started down this investigative track. i have been on a regular mht regimen since nov, but finally got my own script. still have to go in for first related bloodwork. in the near future, with any luck, will try something a bit more tailored to peri and ms. hoping for good things!

MHT?

I am on the standard - the prescription stuff is way too expensive here.........

Wish you luck with that!

mht is just a more recent acronym for hrt, but it's the same deal. what's the standard option, as compared to prescription? my only non prescription approach so far, is miso soup :D
