International Angiology, Vol 29, No 2

My husband went to the Washington University Medical School library this morning and copied the whole issue of the new International Angiology journal dedicated to CCSVI and MS onto a USB flash drive. He just got home !! So I have my reading cut out for me. First of all I am going to read the editorials by Dr Zamboni and Ashton Embry. Then onto the harder articles !!

I want to tell everyone that I don't feel that I can post any of the articles or email them for copyright reasons. I feel terrible about this but I hope you all understand. If I read anything interesting I will let you know. I think the Ashton Embry editorial is pretty much what he states on his Direct-MS website and is free for all to see.

Someone mentioned that Dr Zamboni mentions Ashton Embry's theory in his own editorial. What does he say about it Ozark?

The problem I have with Ashton's theory right now at least is it's based largely on the Buffalo results. The Buffalo results don't seem to be matching up with what IRs are finding at all, in terms of percentages. Since the IRs are doing venograms, I'm still puzzled by Buffalo. So anyway, curious if Dr Zamboni is supporting Ashton Embry's theory or what.

What a guy!

My understanding is you can type out select phrases from any study for personal use and discussion, but not a significant portion of the work (like a whole page or 10%, whichever is less).

Thank you for any insights you share.

Dr Zamboni's article is an introduction to the whole International Angiology issue. He does mention Ashton Embry :

"In this issue of International Angiology, Ashton Embry proposes to integreate the pathophysiologic and molecular consequences of impaired venous drainage of the brain into the current autoimmune model of MS".

I think Ashton Embry's editorial is pretty much like is Direct-MS essay on the same topic. So anyone who is interested can go to his website and read what he has to say.

Hello ozarkcanoer,
To take in all the data in these 10 papers is going to take some time. I have only read the abstracts and that was difficult enough, so good luck with the whole papers.
I am astounded by the paper from Jordan:
Int Angiol. 2010 Apr; 29(2):115-20
Internal jugular vein morphology and hemodynamics in patients with multiple sclerosis
Al-Omari MH, Rousan LA. Radiology Department, King Abdullah University Hospital, Jordan University of Science and Technology, Jordan.
These two radiologists found 84% of pwMS show CCSVI. Lots of us are struggling to get a UK/US/Eu university to perform testing for CCSVI but they can do it in Amman, Jordan !! Something is wrong with this.

My initial impression is that these findings say:
1 - diagnosis for CCSVI is very feasible using current equipment
2 - chronic fatigue in MS is a reason for treating stenoses (small study)
Very interested to hear what you understand from them.

I understand why you cannot post these papers. Hopefully the publisher will allow the full papers to be placed on csvi-ms.net (abstracts only today).

There is a paper on chronic fatigue (CF) and CCSVI in this journal. Is is of particular interest to me (and many others I am sure). The paper is authored by 7 Italians, and Dr Salvi and Dr Zamboni are 2 of them. Here is the conclusion :

"In conclusion, our pilot study demonstrated that the reestablishment of a normal cerebralspinal venous return by means of PTA dramatically reduced CF perception in a group of MS patients with associated CCSVI both in acute and in the long-term, suggesting that CF is probably a symptom related to CCSVI."

Note : PTA = "Purcutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty"

MarkW,

I have tremendous amount of fatigue and headaches and pain. So to read and absorb the whole journal will be an effort for me to be sure. But it is reassuring to see these articles not as rumor or opinion on the internet, but as articles discussing details of these studies in a peer-reviewed journal.
