Need info on how to get a scan

Post by luvmyhusband »

Hi everyone - I just signed up for this and really don't even know where to begin. My husband is the one with MS and we live in Saskatchewan. We are very interested in getting a CCSVI scan done but don't know where to begin. Do we go to his GP to get a referral to a vascular surgeon? We're skeptical of our neurologist as well - we highly doubt he'll refer us to anything. That's what it sounded like on the CTV W5 thing last night.

Could someone also clear up my confusion from that show last night. Why can some ppl get to see a vascular surgeon, who then scans them and/or gets an MRV, then actually have the liberation treatment done (here in Canada) and why are others having to go to places like False Creek or the States and then off to Poland or India? I'm confused. Help.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hi LMH.. I can only share what I know.. MRV and/or Doppler scans are available at FCSC False Creek Surgical Centre in Vancouver. http://www.falsecreekhealthcare.com/ there is a charge as this is a private clinic. This clinic is proactively engaged in the CCSVI theory. The treatment itself is not available anywhere in Canada..YET! To date, our health care system is refusing compensation for anything MS/ CCSVI related.

I don't know your situation or your husband's condition so please consider this when you read my next comment. I believe like so many others.. if you can.. wait... read, write, research, listen and learn... then carry your knowledge into your doctors office. If you and the this theory are rejected.. try again and again..

This is a very good place to start.. click on the notes tab...

Good luck!!

Thanks PCakes. I had started looking into False Creek and we're definitely considering it. I think I'm going to get my husband to go to his GP this week and see what he says about it and then ask for a referral to a vascular surgeon - see how that goes.

And you're right, if that fails, try again. It seems absolutely absurd to me that the liberation treatment isn't just automatically done when CCSVI is discovered. Who cares if it turns out not to be an MS cure - it is helping ppl with soooooo many symptoms. And it's a perfectly harmless procedure.

Thanks again

Hi luv,

If you head west to False Creek, check out the Facebook group for BC (see link in my signature). A lot of us are from Vancouver and have been scanned at False Creek, so we can give you clinic and area information.
