Spanish Airports Open

Post by MarkW »

Hello All,
The only airports open for American flights are in Spain. It is possible to get a train from Madrid to Katowice but it a long way so allow 2 days for the journey and it is not a direct service !!! The European airlines are complaining that the restrictions are unreasonable. But Governments are being careful because plane crashes would be a problem (English understatement).
Europeans can get to Poland by train or car, it just takes a long time, is very tiring and costs lots more.
Good luck to everyone trying to travel.

Mark, it s going to be hard.
I am from Greece and my appointment to Bulgaria is on the 3rd of May.
Bulgaria is right above us, we share serious distances of borders and yet, the 2 hour flight from Athens to Sofia is a no no at this point.

Volcanos, plane crashes, what else is next?

Seems like airports are opening up again slowly and under strict restrictions. They intend to fly certain corridors. I think england, germany and some French airports are opening up. Hopefully things get back to normal soon..

Please keep us posted about flight conditions in Germany and Poland for the next while!

There seem to be a lot of us trying to cross the ocean soon.

What happens if we don't make it to our appointment ? will we need to cancel ahead of time? wait for another time? ask for our $ back?

Anyone know?

There are two flights for Paris taking off from Montreal tonight. Barring any trouble and assuming the volcano doesn't act up, I might actually make my flight Tuesday evening!

I hope you get on it, Paul... and the same for the rest of us going over. Anyone heard from anyone there now? I'm marking exams etc so am not following TiMS closely these days.

I have every intention of getting on that flight.

Livabird drove there and arrived tonight.

Good luck with the exams Ted - see you in Katowice (or maybe Krakow on the weekend)

Good job, Paul. I have not had any luck getting across the pond in time for the 26th, so we won't have chance to meet. Good luck, I hope you make it! I am going to keep trying though. Brynn

I hope you can make alternate arrangements, Brynn, now that the airports are opening up some.

Corridors open for flights

Post by MarkW »

The good news is that air corridors are open for flights and all airspace above 20000 feet is open. It may take 5-10 days to get over the backlog but the end is in sight unless the big volanco next the the current small one decides to erupt.
