Transient headaches after procedure

Did anyone of you go through transient headaches after angioplasty and could you tell me about your experiences?

It's that since 5 days after procedure (now day 10) coping with headaches that go from burning sensation to pressure and are from mild to extremely painful in intensity...only day 2 had a migraine the other first 5 days post-procedure was feeling marvelllous.

I hope it's transient indeed...as am not a migraine person and never had that before in such intensity and length of ups and downs on headaches...

I have seen "transient headache" cases listed in Simka’s presentation of „Preliminary results of preoperative diagnostics and endovascular treatment for CCSVI” (shown February 7th, 2010 in Canada, Hamilton + viewed on the Euromedic web-site). - so also better to tell him that I'm another case... I decided to call Euromedic and also ask for advice...

Here paste number: "6) Endovascular treatment – complications:
1 minor bleeding from puncture in the goin - 2 days postop,
1 gastrointestinal bleeding a week postop,
transient headaches following procedure in some patients."

Thanks for sharing experiences - would help me a lot to understand better whether can hope they will be gone again soon...

Could these headaches be explained by the brain struggling and needs time in adapting to the new blood-flow dynamics? I have tried to see it in this positive way and hope indeed a transition period and once brain adapted will hopefully go away...

This is what I understood about the headaches (and not only headaches). As I have been suffering from strong headaches for more than 15 years I was not worried much. My headache became much better after 4 months but still in case of weather changes it is still bad.
5 patients in Slovakia mentioned headaches after the procedure as well. One of them very strong headaches - I will meet her next week so I will ask for how long. Not all of them had headaches before. Next patient is having her procedure on Wednesday. I go to se her and doctors will check my veins. I do not have to pay.

Thank you so much, Erika...woke up again with a more light burning headache this morning, and worrying about it only makes things worse...but then after ibuprofen and a bit of relaxation bioginnastica (and neck/shoulder massage of my husband helped certainly now again better... I just trust this is transient and will go away...and otherwise I feel good, so if it would go away in a while then it would overall be marvellous!

I will still also ask Euromedic about this tomorrow. Interested in their views.

Haha, actually was hesitating to write that or not - but actually admit that the bioginnastica team where I also had private 1 hour biogym classes (which are combined with kind of autogenous relaxation techniques and focused neck/head and back massage to stretch my vertebral column) in the past are also excellent at that! I may start to go again next week to see Monica - good idea!

I have Transverse Myelitis (TM) is a similar condition to MS.

Eight months after my TM I developed unbearable daily migraines (in the left side of only). Right after having a balloon angioplasty to treat CCSVI the daily migraines were gone.

But I had a weird throbbing in my head (left and right sides), similar to a headache. It was the same throbbing I had months ago after my last MRI scan. Then the throbbing lasted for two weeks and my neurologist could not explain why.

I very worried asked my vascular surgeon and he told me that the throbbing and headaches after the balloon angioplasty were relatively common. All due to the contrast used. I finally understood why I had that throbbing after my MRI scan.

The throbbing was gone two days after the angioplasty.


Are you by any chance on blood thinners or anti blood clogging after the angioplasty? I was prescribed innohep, daily injections for a month with a lose dose 10iu/ml.

I had that throbbing a day after I stopped using the innohep. Then it went away, weird.

I hope that your headaches disappear soon.

I noticed headaches like you describe for about 1 - 1.5 weeks after the procedure. Teated them with Tylenol/Panadol (OTC analgesic). The headaches have since stopped. I was ballooned about a month ago.

As a side note, I suffered from migranes - especially brought on by weather changes. I have not had one since the procedure - and we have had some strange weather here, so I'm hoping that this is another unexcepted bonus of the procedure.

Just to remark that my headaches are getting a bit better - today only still a bit left-sided at my temple (but somehow it seems now more linked to left jaw nerve pain that got since 2 days - and it does not seem to be the teeth I checked it out with the dentist yesterday). The jaw pain might be related to anxiousness that I had from the strong headaches before. Today managed to work without pain-killers. At least have impression that in a while could disappear completely...

And otherwise feel generally more energetic, no brain-fog/dizziness and had no fatigue/instability spells as commonnly (lately always?) had in afternoons. Weard to say that I prefer a light one-sided headache at my temple and feeling "present in this world" to the fatigue I had before...also because I have hope that as soon as the headache will disappear completely, I may feel much better than before!
