Money in Poland, visa, ATM's, American Express?

Post by Kirtap »

Hi,
Just would like to have some feedback from you about the way to get money in Poland.
Visa, American express, ATM?
Is it better to have some cash and change it there for zlotys?
I read somewhere that if we use card with a pin, we must have a 4 digits pin? My atm and visa have 5 digits pin!

Let me know your experience please.

I got my bank to order some PLN(Zloty) I would recommend 1000 or so. Not sure about the pin number on the ATM machines there was a bank machine in the mall attached to the hotel I used it to get cash from my visa. My bank said using visa is secure let them know you are travelling out of country and then they won't be surprised. Are you at Euromedic?

This is what I got from Euromidic Poland.

We strongly advise you not to exchange your currency to Polish currency in your country or on the airport as the exchange rate is better in the centre of Katowice.

So what you do is up to you.

Hey Jason that is good advice there are bank machines there that do work but it is good to have a bit on you when you land if you want to get something.

You don't need much though 500 Zloty is about 150 CDN.

The cities are close, I think I went to that hospital for my MRV from the Euromedic in Katowice.

In general you will find AmEx not very well received. Visa more-so, but don't expect the widespread 'pay-for-anything-with-plastic' regime that you are used to in US/Canada.
