They were able to open additional appointment slots was what I was told this morning- I am sure adding Dr. Englander to the list helps!

Maybe this will speed things up for all of us!

I do plan to continue my local pursuits as well. I haven't heard back from that doctor yet (he was on vacation last week), but I have every intention of keeping him involved for the very reasons stated- the more we have accessible, the better!

Albany...still waiting

Post by anamishguy »

I am still waiting on my call from the doctor. I received my first call on June 1st. Has anyone else had to wait this long?

Yes, people who called before then are still waiting for the call from one of the doctors.

Very glad to hear that you received your call BooBear.

We are still waiting for the 2nd. call for my son. The initial call was on June 3rd. Patience is a virtue?? I don't feel very virtuous. :)

Guider, I think patience is an art- and I am no artist, either. :)

I am confident that Albany will get to all of us very soon. My hubby is as thrilled as I am, especially since we won't have to go to Poland. That remained an option for me to consider if I couldn't get anything done here in the States.

Hang in there!!!!

We are waiting for our second call as well. I don't recall the exact day that we received the first call, but it was end of May/beginning of June I think.

Could someone PM me with the approximate cost, or just reply with it. I'm not sure what the thisisms etiquette is for sharing costs.

Thanks!

If it is too expensive  I may not be able to cover it. Sigh. Oh the questions and worries still waiting to be relieved. We are such funny people aren't we? A microwave (instant) generation. But for anyone with MS - who can blame us, eh?

I wonder how Flashack is doing? He's the one I got so much info from. I wish him well.

Dr. Siskin's clinic does perform the procedure on those that do not have insurance and need to pay for it themselves. Call the clinic and start the process, I believe they are now booked late into the year. If something good occurs in Canada prior to your date for the procedure you can always cancel your appt.

The clinic told me cost for those without insurance is $5,000 plus $2,000 per stent if needed.
Good Luck.

I am not sure these numbers are still accurate but they should be in the ball park.

I would not use a medication such as coumadin if only angioplasty is performed. I don't believe that anticoagulation is necessary for angioplasty but a reasonable compromise may be a daily aspirin.

I have an August 16th appointment with Dr. Siskin :D although he is not Dr. Sclafani  but what can you do? I am trying to pull together a DIY anticoagulation regime for afterwards, can anyone point me to the right threads or any discussion of this? So far I've got take aspirin and avoid vitamin K.

This was posted earlier today by someone who was recently treated in Albany.

I've done some looking around the site, but can't seem to find anything about the costs for NY (although I'm sure I had seen it here before!)

Could anyone who has been there or has received definitive info from the clinic please let me know what they are charging?

We are on the list to get a call, but it's going to be a few weeks yet. They sure sound swamped.

Thanks for any info!

L

I haven't seen any bills yet, but this is what was quoted.
$10,000 at the hospital includes everything but stents, add $2000 per stent.
$5,000 at the clinic, add $2000 per stent. For those without insurance you can get it done at the clinic.

ouch! Hope Dr. Siskin's not reading here. He is a fantastic doctor, don't feel like you're "settling".
You will only need anticoagulation meds if you receive stents. Are you thinking you will? Don't you have really mild ms?

CECE

I would hate to think you are not comfortable with Dr but still want treatment at his center.

I have heard absolutely nothing but good things about him and his staff.

From the phone call, I was impressed with Dr. Siskin, he was thorough and kind and, yes, I think he'll be excellent. But I had a 19-minute phone call with the excellent Dr. Siskin and I've had a three month dialogue here with the excellent Dr. Sclafani...you gotta know where my heart is at, I make no apologies for that!

Dr. Sclafani does an anticoagulation regime for angioplasty, because he's had two incidences of clotting, one being his very first patient who is still waiting for a solution and who might've been doing better if not for that clotting. As for my ms, it's very mild in terms of physical disability but has been disabling in terms of fatigue for fifteen years now.

Another thing Dr. Siskin has going for him is his level of experience, he's done a lot of these by now. No disrespect meant and hopefully none taken by any secret drsiskins out there... :)

I love this forum and I love everyone here!!!!! Just sayin :D

Anyway, through the help of cece and mshusband we are calling Albany Monday to get on the list. My bf was number two on Dr. Sclafanis list to liberate, when he was shut down
We have such loyalty to Dr. S but can not wait any longer. My bf is ppms and he is rapidly going downhill daily.
My bf should be in the trial, we live 2 hours from Albany!!!!!
AND Albany is soooooo much less expensive than NYC was going to be.

Is'nt it silly, we have been working with Dr. S and did not know about Albany. NYC is 4 hours away and Albany is 2 hours away from us.

TY Cece and mshusband for opening my eyes!!!!!!!
