Poor circulation and cyanosis affecting the extremities

If it's on your mind and it has to do with multiple sclerosis in any way, post it here.

Poor circulation and cyanosis affecting the extremities

Post by flipflopper »

I know that many people with ms have poor circulation to their extremities. For the past 11 years (starting at the age of 18 ), I have had really poor circulation to my extremities. If I get a cut on my toes, it just no longer heals (which could be dangerous). In the winter, my hands will stay red for weeks or months and my feet will stay red or have a tint of blue for weeks or months. I do not have the types of attacks seen in raynaud's syndrome

In the winter, I get cyanosis and little wounds on the tip of my toes and to a much smaller extent, the tip of the fingers (and some of my toes do not heal - even in the summer). At the onset, many years ago, I was worried about connective tissue diseases and I was tested for many different things but all my test results were normal. My ANA (Anti-Nuclear Antibody) has always been negative. I was also told I do not have raynaud's syndrome. After not really thinking about this too much in the past few years, I have an appointment to investigate other possible vascular causes next month.

I would love to know if anyone who has poor circulation here has problems to the point of getting cyanosis and wounds to their extremities (for me it especially affects my feet even if I have extremely poor circulation in my hands).

No I don't have the poor circulation to the degree you have, but do have it to point of reynaud's symdrome symptoms, and lack of color and feeling, and loss of function with temperature switch---
What has helped me phenomenally, and immediately, is Inclined Bed Therapy--there is a thread explaining this in the CCSVI forum--

Thanks a lot for the reply shye! That’s what I thought, that my poor circulation was more extreme than what others with ms (who have poor circulation) experience.

I have been trying Inclined Bed Therapy for 2.5 months now but I do not notice any improvements.

Sounds like you definitely need to keep searching--the non-healing is a real alarm
Have you been checked for diabetes?

Have you been tested for a collapsed vein in the leg? Is your bed raised to the correct height?

Do you live in a very humid environment, like a river valley area?

Hi Andrew,

I’m really sorry I missed seeing your post until now!

I live in Montreal so I do not live in a very humid climate.

My bed is raised 6 inches at the head.

I have not been tested for a collapsed vein in my leg. I have an appointment with a vascular specialist next week. If a reason for my poor circulation is found, I will post it here.
