Good Morning all,

I was just diagnosed with MS about a month ago. This has really hit me hard. I was a real trooper until I had my first relapse this past Friday. I was given IV steroids and steroids via pill form to taper off. I feel stronger but I still have the numbness and tingling bull crap.

I am on the Avonex injection therapy in which my neuro had tapered from 1/4 a week. Now I am in the full injection amount effective last Friday.

I was starting to feel better last week. I had even walked without my cane.....this week...it came back with a vengeance and to different areas of my body!

Like I said, I felt like a trooper in handling all of this last week. Now with this relapse...I feel really angry. Not depressed....just really angry.

P.S. I am a 36 year olf female without kids. I was planning to have children a couple of months ago now I see this is not a possiblity for me.

I think you should take a look at the CCSVI forum and see that there is real hope for the newly diagnosed. Some want further studies conducted before they allow themselves to believe in the theory, but many others believe in it whole heartedly.

Here are some videos which demonstrate what is possible with the treatment:

So don't give up on the idea of having a family!

And some studies have shown that super high doses of D3 are pretty effective at protecting against relapses.

Hi SweetBrooklyn,
I would recommend reading through some of the posts on the Diet and Natural Approach forums for many ideas which are complementary to the MS drugs such as Avonex. Some things to look into might include reducing saturated fat and eliminating trans fat both of which are proinflammatory. There are also several supplements which are anti-inflammatory such as EGCG from green tea, curcumin from turmeric and r-lipoic acid. In addition, many people here have found benefit from supplementing with omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil and also a balanced calcium, magnesium, zinc and vitamin D3 supplement. As noted above, all of these suggestion should work complementary to the disease modifying drugs (DMDs). Feel free to ask any questions that you might have. Jimmylegs is one of our resident nutrition experts and she can likely answer many of your questions.
