ALL newspaper publications need controversy , strife , and shocking headlines highly visible in order to get you to dig into your wallet and buy their product.

Often ..... after reading the WHOLE article in detail ..... you probably want your money back.

The NYT , LAT , and the WSJ .... all are in this arrangement.

They are NOT medical publications . Remember this.

The WSJ is a financial publication. Not a medical publication.

The good people running the WSJ are bringing the Liberation discovery to the attention of those having stock in Pharma. And the possible effects it may have on those Pharma shares value.

At present .... there is no danger of Pharma stock nosediving .... as many that have had the Liberation procedure ...... are advised to stay on their DMD...... as is Mrs. Zamboni..........

This may explain the reluctance of BIG INSURANCE to fund the Liberation procedure . They would end up paying for a procedure that is costly .... AND continue to pay for those overpriced DMD.

Hence ...... doubling their costs. And Big Insurance has their shareholders also .

But you can bet that BIG INSURANCE is watching this CCSVI idea take flight ...... and look forward to funding a cost effective quick procedure that may eliminate any need for DMD in people with MS symptoms ....in the near future.

If they are as smart as I think they are ...... '' off the record funding '' should fall into the hands of our CCSVI-MS investigators ...

No questions asked...............

"Ditto!" Selkie unfortunately i think might be on the right track. And
isn't it interesting tha Kuwait approved CCSVI and is now treating their
people for the disorder.

I think experienced interventional radiologists need to respond to both the Wall Street Journal and The LA Times regarding these articles to point out the scientific flaws. Even I can see these studies did not use Dr. Zamboni's testing protocols therefore in no way do they disprove that CCSVI exists. But someone who speaks the language of science needs to expose both of these journals for publishing bad science in their health/science departments.

Hello Selkie - You have to be really careful with what you read regarding CCSVI . I'm not too interested in the op-ed of most newspapers.

A little while ago .... the editor of a well regarded medical journal came out swinging against CCSVI .

At the conclusion of his babble .... in fine print , of course ... was the disclaimer that the opinion of the writer ... DOES NOT REFLECT the opinion of the medical journal itself.

In other words .... his opinion is his only ... he speaks for himself only.

As hard as it is ........ one must often force oneself to read ALL of the information being offered .... and ALL of any disclaimers.

Are you heading for San Diego ?

These were not editorials (though they should be). They were presented as scientific studies in the health/science section of both newspapers (LA Times/Wall Street Jnl)

My fear is will this affect how our doctors regard CCSVI - I saw no disclaimers to either article? Could this affect IRB decisions re: liberation? I hope not...

I hope I can go to San Diego - I still need a referral from a doctor for the "MRI-MS diagnosis" and also the kidney blood test.

I sent my PCP a letter stating my intention, accepting full responsibility for my decisions, along with several supporting articles on CCSVI including the BNAC study, etc. If she refuses to give me the script that Hubbard requires, I'll have to search elsewhere. In Hawaii alternatives are limited - I'm only allowed one doctor by my HMO so must go out of pocket if she won't give me the prescription, and then find someone willing to fulfill Hubbard's requirement.

Kinda related: I watched Dr. Oz on TV today, probably a rerun, but he was discussing the Plague and other bad bacteria that are coming home with Iraq and Afghan military.
He had a disease MD to discuss this problem.
There was a patient who had to choose between the antiobiotic and her kidneys, as Pharma has not developed any new antibiotic for these gram negative bacteria since 1930s.!
Dr. Oz looked straight into the camera and said, Pharma does not want to spend time and money developing an antiobiotic that you may only need for a few weeks. They want to only develop drugs you will take for the rest of your life, BP, cholesterol, etc...
I added CRABS on my own.
I was happy to hear him say this.

Hi Selkie - I wouldn't worry about doctors getting influenced by articles in newspapers ..... as the next day ..... the same articles are used to wrap fish.

That might tell you something

One would expect medical professionals to source their information from respected trade journals ..... perhaps the NEJM ?

I would avoid bringing information to your PCP. This often backfires and the PCP often get their backs up . I would provide a nicely constructed ONE PAGE letter ...... kindly asking if said PCP could take some of their valuable time to assist you in getting tested for this condition , CCSVI.

At that point .... they are either IN or OUT. If they are out .... move on.

Just thought of something .

With his permission ............ I would print and provide that recent letter constructed by the doctor .... that was/is the recording secretary of that new Society started by Dr. Scalafani ...... the names in that room ..WOW.

That should get anyones attention.

Oops Mr Success - I already sent her the packet - full of articles, I did tell her in the cover letter, I understood if she didn't have time to read it all. Oh well, what's done is done. Either she says yes or no.

I do know a holistic doctor who will probably write the script & order the blood test - but I have to pay out of pocket. Or I'll have to wait for one of the other clinics that doesn't require a prescription.

How insightful and as the Anals noted, "important."

How does it advance the science of this if you don't actually attempt to replicate the work of Dr. Zamboni?

I personally tested the CCSVI theory using tarot cards and was "not able to reproduce the findings by Zamboni et al. " I should submit my results to the growing evidence that CCSVI is not real at least when you don't actually test for it.

Tarot has been shown to be unfocussed and inaccurate compared to the more professional parapsychological methods such as Ouija. Never or nonetheless, it fully agrees with this finding.

Zamboni has said on many occasions that researchers, especially those at financial or mental risk, should continue taking their medication.

"Time is brain, and, as we all know, also money, so the conclusion might be reached that brain is money, but we're still not sure." said Dr. Gamblumer of the Hospital for Sick Billionaires, where he is Chief of Neuro-Phrenology.

CCSVI has again been described among the cognoscenti as "unreal".

What really bothers me is I just came from a family gathering where the common opinion, gleaned from the newspapers, was, as you would expect, I told you so, look at all these news stories about that CCSVI thing. I had to convince everybody it was safe, and then they probably thought, oh well, it's his money, and he probably isn't long for this world, anyway...

Yes, word of mouth is powerful, but combine it with big-name media and these 'medical' journals... Time for another big story, CTV...

Well, looking at the MS news, on google news, for the past 48 hours, this story is being repeated over and over, everywhere! I don't know if they are regurgitating the WSJ story but it seems like someone, somewhere has paid a PR firm to promote the 'bad news' right before the Canadian government discusses funding for trials. I can't think of any other reason for this old news to be rehashed..

I particularly disliked this article.

If anyone has a contact for any of the many papers who have run this story, try to find out if they were sent a press release, find out who it's from and I'll have some of my East End boys pay them a visit. Fire escapes can be very slippy this time of year, n'ah wot ah mean sunshine?

I think it's great CCSVI is getting all this ink.

Eventually ..... those interested enough to find out more .... will find out the true facts .

I don't get too excited about newspaper articles. Like I said before ... the next day .... it's used to wrap fish

Let's only accept PEER REVIEWED .... Medical Publications as our guide

Dr. Scalafani has done so. Others will follow.

For now ..... let's read the newspapers with a big

smile ..... as we know here at TIMS .......... we get our information from those working hard at solving the MS- CCSVI puzzle. And they are the experts.

Not some cub reporter .... looking to increase his/her readership numericals .
