Anyone on aspirin only after balloon angio (no stents)?

Post by auburntiger »

For those that have been through balloon angioplasty, I am seeing a real difference regarding the type and longevity of medication prescribed after the procedure. (Plavix, Coumadin, aspirin, War...)

Is there anyone who is sensitive to medication that was put on an aspirin regime only? If yes, what was the dosage? What about a NO med regime?

What was the doctor's reasoning behind this?

I appreciate your personal experience knowledge.

After my first procedure (I was the doctor's first) I was on Plavix for 3 months. He had no good rationale for this, but a "better safe than sorry" kind of call. Subsequent patients got anything from baby aspirin, to 325mg aspirin, to Plavix. He did not use any stents.

The doctor who did my second procedure puts balloon-only patients on 325mg/day aspirin for 3 months, and stented patients on Plavix for 3 months.

I have no stents.

Hope that helps!

My ballooning was very very mild. The Dr didn't suggest any medication. I did however go on 100mg/day ("baby-asprin") for my own peace of mind.

i was ballooned in both IJV's one month ago and was told to take a 75mg Aspirin every day for 6 months.

My stenosis was fairly mild - 30-50% stenosis, right side more severe than left.

I only had balloons. The doctor put me on Plavix 75mg, but I had lots of bruising, so he told me to stop Plavix and take aspirin 81mg.

I had both left an right jugulas opened, but was not put on any blood thinners either. He did say that I could take asprin if I chose to, so for now I am taking the 325 mg, the will go down to the lower 81 mg daily.

I have heard my doctor in an interview (I think) that vein thrombosis (stent clotting) happened to those patients who didn't follow the anticoagulant protocol closely.
