First injection over!!

Post by weedenise »

Well, started the Avonex last night and I have to say the injection wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. It didn't hurt at all and was over in a second.

The side effects kicked in about 4 hours later while in bed (had been trying to get to sleep quick in order to miss them but it never happens when you want it to!). Started feeling a little bit achy, then shivery, then absolutely freeing. Started shaking and teeth chattering. Doug said when he came in I was making a few strange noises and was shaking but I didn't hear him coming in so it didn't disturb me (selfish? me?) :D

Woke about 2.30, changed pyjamas as they were soaked in sweat, had a huge drink of water, another two Ibuprofen (had taken 2 before the injection then 2 before bed). Went back to sleep til about 8.30 (which is a long lie in our house at the best of times!)

Woke with a bit of a headache but nothing serious and nothing another 2 Ibuprofen didn't shift.

Felt fine today - no mark from the injection and feeling good. I know its no cure but if it helps then its worth it til the cure comes!

Hi Denise,
Hang in there, it does get better. If you haven't already, then you may want to read a couple of my prior posts where I describe my experiences with Avonex. I've now been on Avonex for about 6 years and I would be happy to try to answer any questions you might have.

Good luck, NHE
