Margo Oliver fought the neuro-muscular disease for more than a decade.
Three years ago, she travelled to China for experimental stem cell treatment at a cost of more than $30,000.
There was progress, for a time, after that treatment. Oliver, who used a wheelchair, said she felt some improvement and even got on her feet again. But the progress was short-lived.
Last October she travelled to Costa Rica for another experimental treatment to clear blockages in her neck veins. Again, the improvements were not lasting.
Oliver died Tuesday. She was 50.
Condolences to her and her family.
