hello frinds
my name is atefe, i am nursing studen(nursing &midwifery ,Tehran University of Medical Sciences),one of my interests is in the field of MS research,In your opinion, how can I as a nurse to help people with MS?

Atefe, welcome to ThisIsMS. We appreciate your desire to help people with MS. My suggestion is to study and read all the information you can find on the disease; you are in a good place – a university – to do that. There are good book recommendations in the Reading Nook forum on this website (I do not know if these books are available in your native-language.).

In addition, a bottomless reserve of kindness and empathy and patience is helpful for us people with MS – as a nurse, you probably already possess this quality. It is difficult to bear a disease that is such a mystery – no known cause, no effective treatment. We need good people in MS research; we wish you the best.

One- Please get yourself acquainted with new researches in MS and apprise your patients about the options available. For example use of Low Dose Neltrexone (LDN) and Diagnosis of CCSVI and subsequent Liberation Treatment are some of the options which many of patients including me have gone for and are quite satisfied.

Second - Please explore the local expertise/ trials and studies like the one which came from Iran which included having a button cell tied around the patient head at acupressure point DU-20 and having good results. Please do educate patients like us, if u get something solid.

I think one thing you could do is to encourage patients to get their Vitamin D3 (cholocalciferol) levels tested and to take supplements if needed. As women in Iran might be quite covered up it is possible that particularly women with MS in Iran might be vitamin D deficient, and this would not help their MS progression. http://www.altmuslimah.com/a/b/a/3530/

Agree with all the above. I live across the other side of the gulf and women's health problems associated with lack of sun exposure is horrendous. Its not just MS but breast and bowel cancer are more common in Vit D deficient women.
