stem cells and spms

Stem Cell Therapy Promising in Progressive MS
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/757809

Results of a small proof-of-concept study hint that autologous mesenchymal stem cells may have neuroprotective effects in multiple sclerosis (MS).

The study involved 10 patients with secondary progressive MS and objective evidence of optic nerve involvement resulting from demyelination. Over the course of 6 to 10 months after a single infusion of autologous mesenchymal stem cells in the central nervous system (CNS), researchers saw evidence of functional, neurophysiological, and structural improvement in vision without evidence of significant adverse effects.

The patients also experienced a reduction in functional disability, as measured by the Expanded Disability Status Score (EDSS)...

No prob scorp. While you gave me reason to go to the Medscape site I noticed their info on the 2011 American Academy of Neurology (AAN) 63rd Annual Meeting. While I'd not want to subject myself to all the pissing and moaning at the CCSVI forum, check out the fourth video down "Putting CCSVI to Rest??" http://www.medscape.com/viewcollection/31904

While the attempts to write Freedman off as a bad guy are all too easy, he makes sense when nothing else about CCSVI seems to.

I guess I am confused as to why we are still putting money into MS research, including stem sells, when all the answers are located on TIMS!

It's short for "ThisIsMS" -- the website we're on.

FYI to anyone wanting to join in this thread -- it's a really, really old thread (3 years ago) that was just bumped today.
Dx'd with MS & HNPP (hereditary peripheral neuropathy) 7/03 but must have had MS for 30 yrs before that. I've never taken meds for MS except 1 yr experiment on LDN. (I found diet, exercise, sleep, humor, music help me the most.)
