or you could look at it as
bigger market for crappy DMDs = less incentive to create something more effective.
the truth is probably muddled between those two.

I really wish it worked that way but it just doesn't. The vast majority of grass roots MS research is done in the universities and if they discover something that may become viable ( big profit)for a drug company to pursue, then the company will take over the continuation of the research. Any discovery that can't be patetented will remain in the shadows with little funding to pursue its development. That's just the way it is!
