Scott,
Did this subject prick your interest because of its large response, because it did mine.
I hope you dont mind but I posted your reply on my blog, I believe that your findings are relevant to some who access my blog.
It is mainly in the professional sector, and there are two guys or ladies from Bulgaria on it at the moment, so you never know. My blog has been to places I cant even spell.
The scientists etc need to pull together and join up the dots, and also listen to us the diagnosed, as looks to me as we are holding all the cards. We just need a table to play on. And that is what I am tring to do.
I have been very careful not to make it overly public as my views are extremely controvercial and I am not out to upset anyone, as I am well aware the stress reaction on the body.
Scientist Doctoors and educated men get it wrong sometimes. They thought Roger Bannisters body would explode under the pressure of a 4 minute mile.
Educated men thought Columbus would fall off the planet
You see how us ordinary folk can make a huge difference, now that excites me.
So hey ho, on I go

Re: help please re shingles
oh, the irony.
Jeff has shingles. Starting valtrex today. Poor guy, he thought it was an MS flare...went to doctor and she saw the tell-tale rash under his arms and across his back. Was it from being on copaxone? Is this part of his MS? Is it part of the viral cycle, like Scott says? Or is it completely unrelated? Blood flow is still good from CCSVI venoplasty 3 years ago. But shingles? He feels your pain, sou. Hopefully he'll recover quickly.
Also wondering if shingles vaccine is contraindicated for pwMS, since it's a live vaccine. Have found a variety of opinion on this, nothing concrete.
never dull,
cheer

ow
sorry to hear that.
how's the zinc and selenium intake and status?
i see lysine is implicated too, but if there's enough meat/poultry/fish going in, that shouldn't be an issue...

Re: help please re shingles
thanks, JL. Will bump up zinc. His levels haven't been checked in over a year. I see tuna, turkey and chicken are good for selenium....he should be OK on that. Making a nice, spicy chicken curry tonight, lots of antiviral garlic and capsacin, and lysine in the chicken.jimmylegs wrote:owsorry to hear that.

I think pwMS will understand this...Jeff was actually relieved he has shingles. He thought his MS was flaring, since he was exhausted, achy, sore, dizzy and miserable. He hasn't felt this bad in a few years. And I feel terrible, because he had me look at his rash last week, and I thought it was a couple bug bites. doh. So glad he went to the doctor.

Re: help please re shingles
okay good - if you go up to 50mcg zinc, try to balance w/ 2mg copper. some products are already balanced like that, is yours?
and don't forget good ol' selenium!
200mcg per day.
4 oz of chicken should chip in about 30mcg Se...
4 oz of cod gets you about 50mcg Se, same amount of shrimp gets you about 45mcg Se.
5 oz crimini mushrooms gets you 23 mcg Se, an egg contributes 6.6 mcg Se, jeff how do you feel about mushroom omelets?
hope you feel better AND relieved soon

Re: help please re shingles
oh i forgot, one other thing cheer - last time i tried to take my zinc down to every other day i ended up fighting a cold. i had bloodwork done around that time and my levels were down. at the same time as i went back to zinc every day, i decided to put some vitamin A back in too. i had backed off on that because i get lots of beta carotene and what with vit A being a fat soluble one and all... so i went back on the full ACESZ combo. i spread it through the day and noticed that every time i took a vitamin A i would feel much better for a good few hours, and in a day or so i was all good again. so you could maybe think about a short term therapeutic boost using all the ingredients in that good old A-C-E(8)-Se-Zn power pack.

Re: help please re shingles
Just got over shingles myself. Felt like someone stitched up my abdomen and left out the pain killers. I was surprised but Advil got rid of the pain almost completely and left it manageable. Lasted about 3 weeks. No post herpetic neuralgia.
