Waiting on results..

Post by Traceyfan4life »

Hi, I'm new here and I'm looking to find out how much this will change my life being that I care for two children with special needs. My name is Tracey and I've just turned 38. I've had migraines for as long as I can remember, but when I fell pregnant with my eldest 16yrs ago, I started experiencing epilepsy. I went through a heap of tests to be told I had Basilar type migraines that trigger the epilepsy. I tried medication but that seemed to make them worse so I stopped. In recent years I've had a heap of strange symptoms so I saw my gp who recommend I see my neurologist again thinking I had fibromyalgia. When I saw him I explained all these weired things like, feeling like I'd been beaten with a bat every morning, burning pain, tremors, randomly dropping things, blurred vision occasionally and being totally exhastested from the time I wake up to when I go back to bed, and the list goes on. On examination he said in my file my thyroid was enlarged in 2003 and it is larger now and my voice is deeper. He has ordered a MRI with contrast and an ultrasound of my thyroid as every blood test I've had done in the past said it was in normal range. Today I dug out my last CT from 2001 and saw it said there were prominent perivascular spaces in the basilar gangliar back then. Is this a sign that my neuro is right and that my scans will show that I have ms, and if so how badly will this affect my ability to take care of my children. I'm pretty scared at the moment.

MS is different with everyone so no one can tell you what to expect. You might want to check out the diet section on this site. Diet can help with this disease.

Thanks for your reply I really appreciate your input... I will look into it. Today's not been a good day, killer migraine, blurring vision and real difficulty moving my right arm.

Hi, I went back to my neuro yesturday for my results to the tests for ms. I'm frustraited beyond words right now. He says I have multiple nodules on my thyroid but not requiring surgry right now. He said that although the tests at this point don't indicate the ms diagnosis he feels at this point a fybromyalgia diagnosis fits right now, but he thinks it's a very real possibility that it could come down the track. I currently have a constant tremor on my right side, both baisilar and hemaphaligic migraines, distorted to almost total blindness if I get to tired. How can it be fybromyalgia if he thinks ms is very likely down the track. Can you have both? And how do I explain this to my 2 young kids when I can't understand?? I go back again in 3mths but this is driving me insane.... Any comments would be greatly apprieciated. Thank-you!

serum zinc and serum magnesium tests could be a good idea. they're involved in a wide variety of disease states including ms and fibro.

the results would likely come back 'normal' - if you do get these tested, disregard the 'normal range' and ensure you get the specific results, including the units. 'healthy' values are available, details in the first post of my ms nutrition topic in the 'regimens' section here at TiMS.

The relationship between serum trace element levels and clinical parameters in patients with fibromyalgia (2008)
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18496697
Abstract
We examined the association between serum trace elements and clinical findings such as number of sensitive tender points, severity of fatigue and functional status in patients with fibromyalgia (FM). ... The demographic data, disease duration, number of tender points and accompanying symptoms (fatigue, sleep disorders, headache, paresthesia, irritable bowel syndrome, sicca symptoms, Raynaud's phenomena) of the patients were noted. ... Serum levels of zinc (P = 0.001) and magnesium (P = 0.002) were significantly decreased by FM groups, whereas there was no considerable difference with selenium levels of both groups (P > 0.05). Association between serum zinc level and number of tender points (P = 0.008) and that between fatigue and magnesium level (P = 0.003) was found as meaningful. According to the results of this study, it was asserted that serum magnesium and zinc levels may play an important role in the pathophysiology of FM.
