I was just diagnosed with MS - I can't believe how fast all this happened. I am married with 4 kids and afraid that my condition although mild now, will quickly prevent me from participating in activities, etc... I do appreciate that this forum exists and hope to share encourgement and hope.

Welcome to ThisIsMS, Dan.

The key is to stay active as much as you can. With MS, we have to fight for the privilege of standing still, i.e., two steps forward, two steps back.JerseyDan wrote:I was just diagnosed with MS - I can't believe how fast all this happened. I know it can be scary when you are first diagnosed. It is smart that you came here for support.
I agree with NHE with staying active. Walking, yoga, swimming are all really MS friendly. Many people with MS can do much more.
Also, do your research before you take any medications. Try to eat a healthy well balanced diet. I personally do not recommend the Swank diet that people with MS are told to go on. Stay away from as many toxins as you can. Learn how to deal with stress well. Stay out of the heat.
You will find your answers.

Re: First Post
Welcome JerseyDan, I was diagnosed not a year ago so all that you're saying I still remember well. It is scary, I was really scared for about a month, I tried to read all of this forum and everything on MS at once, which was way too much info and I'd get anxious etc.
So my advice is just to take it slowly...the disease is (unfortunately) not going anywhere so you can take some time to think, to take a few days off, to enjoy life with your family and friends. We just don't know how everything will progress - slow, fast, never...so I try not to worry too much with the future. I do make plans but I don't obsess about it.
