They found cancer during my CCSVI research test

Hello. I am new. This is my first post.

I don't know if anyone has discussed this in this forum, but I couldn't leave without posting.

A couple of years ago I was in the research study for the CCSVI and I was getting the neck sonogram when the doctor that was doing it said that she saw some nodules on my thyroid.
Later my MS specialist called to tell me he really wanted me to go in and have them checked out. After a biopsy, it turns out I had Thyroid cancer.

Without the CCSVI research project I would still have the cancer growing on my thyroid and be blaming my MS for the symptoms.
I had my thyroid removed, went through radiation, and the cancer is all gone.
If anyone else sees something similar on their test, please go and get it checked out.

How fortunate the cancer was detected and you received the care you needed for a good outcome. It is not uncommon to find thyroid nodules with ultrasound (they found 3 with mine,) however, only a small percentage of those are cancer. Here are two articles on the subject:

Thanks for the story. This shows how wrong are neuros that attribute everything to MS with no further research.

Sorry to hear of your thyroid cancer diagnosis, but glad that it was caught and treated.
I hope you will follow up with CCSVI testing, to make sure you have adequate jugular venous flow. Dr. Zamboni was the one who noticed the CCSVI caused blood to be rerouted thru the thyroid veins, making these veins collaterals, and potentially causing thyroid problems in people with MS.

That is a very good catch and outcome. I'll pass it on if I see anyone else posting about thyroid nodules seen in a scan.

If you happen to get the CCSVI ultrasound done again, one question that came up awhile back was if the radiation to the neck is damaging to the nearby jugular veins. You'd be uniquely situated with before and after testing of the veins to answer that question. I hope the answer is no, it does not affect the jugulars. The other possibility is if the radiation affects the thyroid veins. Not that there would have been any choice in the matter: treating the cancer comes first.

I might ask my neuro about that.
The radiation they gave me was not site-specific, though.
They had me take radiation iodine pill. Apparently thyroid cancer can break off and travel to other parts of your body.
So if it ends up on your lung, you don't get lung cancer, you have thyroid cancer on your lung.

Weird!

Anyway, I wonder if it makes a difference.
